The Story Behind Disney Springs

The Story Behind Disney Springs

by: D-Team Caitlin

At Walt Disney World everything has a story, and Disney Springs is no exception. Though it’s still referred to as Downtown Disney, imagineers are hard at work transforming the area into “Disney Springs.”

When the concept art was revealed more than a year ago, we were thrilled. Downtown Disney has always had a bit of a thrown together feel. From the T-Rex restaurant and shops galore (some Disney, some not) to the since dilapidated Pleasure Island, this renovation is much needed. It has always lacked a cohesive theme, and that is exactly what it will gain through this transformation.

According to imagineer, Theron Skees, the concept for Disney Springs is modeled after old Floridian towns of the 1800s. Disney Springs was once a thriving community with old world flavor that has now embraced itself as a classy entertainment and shipping destination. We can’t wait to see how this concept translates into the architecture and feel of the environment.

We’ve also heard that a new bridge was dedicated this month, linking the soon-to-be Disney Springs to the Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa. The “Saratoga Bridge” is pedestrian friendly which makes it an ideal evening destination when you’re back from a long day at the parks.

Stay tuned for more Disney Springs updates. We’ll be sure to keep you informed when new boutiques and restaurants open in the future!
