The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

Today in 1971, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh bounced into our homes. The Walt Disney Animated Classic was a compilation of three previously released animated shorts, in addition to a brand new sequence based on The House at Pooh Corner. With his penchant for “hunny” and deep ponderings, Pooh has always tugged on our heartstrings.

In celebration of his anniversary, here are a few life lessons from our favorite silly, old bear.

1.  “The only reason for being a bee is to make honey. And the only reason for making honey is so I can eat it.”

Sound logic, Pooh. When it’s time for something sweet, add a dollop of honey to one of your favorite snacks. We suggest trying an Apple, Peanut Butter, and Honey Sandwich or adding honey to your Yogurt Parfait.

2.  There’s only ONE Tigger. Yes, Tigger’s the only one.

Don’t believe us? Listen to his jaunty theme song, or if you don’t mind spending movie night getting hysterically emotional, watch The Tigger Movie.

3.  “If you want to make a song more hummy, add a few tiddely poms.”

Richard and Robert Sherman mastered the art of hummy songs, don’t you think? Now, “tiddely poms” is open to interpretation, but we like to think that whatever it means to you is what it is. Sing a song. Add a tiddely pom. It’s that simple.

4.  Everyone needs a Thoughtful Spot.

Where else can you procure ponderings like these?

-“Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there someday.”

-“A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.”

-“You can’t stay in your corner of the forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them    sometimes.”

As Piglet says, “Pooh, for a bear of very little brain, you sure are a smart one.”  We couldn’t agree more.

Happy Anniversary, Pooh. We’ll remember you forever, and that’s a very long time.
