Disney ‘Star Darlings’ Debuts First On-Air Special on Disney Channel Friday! (Wisconsin Native Skylar Stecker Sings remix of Wish Now)

Disney Publishing Worldwide Launches Inspirational New Multiplatform Property, ‘Star Darlings’

Disney Publishing Worldwide Launches Inspirational New Multiplatform Property, ‘Star Darlings’

Disney today announced the television premiere of the first on-air special of its original new tween property “Star Darlings” FRIDAY, JANUARY 29 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The on-air special will extend the stories from the popular “Star Darlings” book series from Disney Publishing Worldwide that feature 12 unique girls who encourage tweens to celebrate their individuality, make positive choices, and show that they can make any wish a reality. “Star Darlings” first debuted in North America in September 2015 as a multiplatform lifestyle experience featuring content, music, and products spanning across books, online, mobile, toys and apparel.

“The ‘Star Darlings’ digital short form content has already garnered millions of views across multiple platforms,” said Andrew Sugerman, executive vice president, Disney Publishing Worldwide. “We are excited to expand the world of Starland to television and give fans across the country even more ways to join the ‘Star Darlings’ on their magical adventures.”

The 30-minute on-air special, “Becoming Star Darlings,” introduces viewers to 12 “Star-Charmed” girls who pursue their individual wishes with determination and the help of their friends. The story begins on Starland where a major crisis is afoot, and the girls are chosen to be the first student Starlings to venture to Earth, or as they call it, “Wishworld.” Determined to succeed, the girls show courage and ingenuity—plus a whole lot of humor—as they guide others on Earth to discover happiness and fulfillment.

“Star Darlings” is rich with themes of friendship, confidence, leadership, and teamwork, and centers on characters that embody the qualities and characteristics of today’s tweens. The stories and journeys represented in the animated specials and book series are designed to inspire tweens to go after their dreams.

Music is a key element of the “Star Darlings” property, and as part of the property’s expansion to television, teen singer-songwriter and actress Skylar Stecker was brought on to remix the “Star Darlings” theme song, “Wish Now.” The remix, along with a live-action music video, features Stecker’s powerhouse vocals coupled with hip-hop-inspired beats and electro-pop synths. The Wisconsin native, whose debut album This Is Me is out now on Cherrytree Records, has been featured on Vevo’s DSCVR and iHeart Radio’s Next Up series which showcase in-studio performances from the most exciting new artist discoveries in music today. Also an actress, Skylar recently guest starred on Disney Channel’s hit TV show, Austin & Ally.

“I am so honored to be a part of the incredible world of ‘Star Darlings,’” said Stecker. “I’ve always wanted to be a singer. To be able to live out my dream and do what I love inspires me to encourage others to do the same. ‘Star Darlings’ feels like my own personal story and I can’t wait for my fans to check it out.”

The “Wish Now” remix is now available for download on iTunes, and on the “Star Darlings” Facebook, YouTube and Instagram channels.

The second “Star Darlings” on-air special, “Star Darlings Friendships,” is scheduled to air on the Disney Channel on March 25, 2016.

“Star Darlings” books, dolls and apparel are now available at mass retailers nationwide. The “Star Darlings” doll line, created in collaboration with master toy partner JAKKS Pacific, features dolls from both Starland and Wishworld. The Starland Fashion Dolls let their inner star shine with “out-of-this-world” fashions, while the Wishworld Fashion Dolls feature stylish, down-to-earth fashions for adventures on Wishworld. A full range of all-new products for tweens including fashion, accessories, beauty, and more will be available in fall 2016.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Original Motion Picture Soundtrack From Oscar®-Winning Composer John Williams

The original motion picture soundtrack for the record-breaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens, featuring new score conducted and composed by five-time Academy Award®-winning composer John Williams, has entered the Billboard 200 chart at No. 5, scanning over 100,000 equivalent album units in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The last and only all-score soundtrack to debut in the Top 5 was Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999.

The album is No. 1 on Billboard’s Soundtrack and Overall Classical Charts; at iTunes, peaked at No. 1 on the Soundtrack chart and No. 3 on the Overall Album chart; and at Amazon, the album is No. 1 on the Soundtrack chart and No. 2 on the Overall Digital Album chart.  Additionally, the album has over 10.3M streams on Spotify.

From Lucasfilm and visionary director J.J. Abrams, Star Wars: The Force Awakens has broken numerous box office records, most recently becoming the fastest film to reach $1 billion globally, a feat it accomplished in 12 days with over $540 million domestically and $550 million internationally. It posted the biggest debut in industry history with $248 million domestically and $529 million globally in its first weekend, as well as the biggest second weekend of all time domestically with $149.2 million.

Oscar®-winning composer John Williams’ ubiquitous Star Wars “Main Title” theme has become part of popular culture since it was first heard accompanying Star Wars: A New Hope in 1977.  It is no surprise that Williams’ orchestral compositions for Star Wars are among the most beloved and recognizable themes in cinematic history, from the classic “Main Title” theme introduced in Star Wars: A New Hope to the ominous “Imperial March” from Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back to the stirring “Duel of the Fates” from the prequel trilogy.

After creating the scores for all six of the previous Star Wars films, Williams returns to compose and conduct his signature sweeping music for The Force Awakens.

Williams, whose career spans over six decades, has won five Academy Awards® and he has scored some of the most popular and critically acclaimed films of all time, including Jaws, the Indiana Jones franchise, the first three Harry Potter films, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial, Lincoln, Schindler’s List, and countless others.

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Huffs and Puffs to Blow Open its 24th Season with Disney’s Silly Symphony Celebration

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Huffs and Puffs to Blow Open its 24th Season with Disney's Silly Symphony Celebration

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra Huffs and Puffs to Blow Open its 24th Season with Disney’s Silly Symphony Celebration

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra opens its 24th season October 3, 2015 with Disney in Concert: A Silly Symphony Celebration. The program is a tuneful and colorful celebration of 75 groundbreaking cartoons produced at the Walt Disney Studios between 1929 and 1939. During the production of these Academy Award-winning shorts Walt Disney perfected the skills essential to the creation of his first feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). These advances and new developments in the use of color, special effects, character animation, music and storytelling continue to influence the art of animation today.

Mr. Disney will actually appear (via video) to explain the various techniques he and his animation team employed for each of these ground breaking animated shorts including The Ugly Duckling, The Skeleton Dance, The Three Little Pigs, Flowers and Trees, The Old Mill and Music Land. Composers Leigh Harline, Frank Churchill and Carl Stalling (who went on to Looney Toons fame) and others penned the scores to these classic cartoons, which the KSO will perform in sync with the newly restored digital film masters.

This performance will mark the first time A Silly Symphony Celebration has been performed in public (outside of last month’s 23rd annual Disney Expo held in Anaheim, CA). WKRC’s morning anchor Bob Herzog will share the stage with Mr. Disney and the KSO, acting as host for the premiere presentation.

The KSO presented the regional orchestral premiere of Disney’s Pirates of the Carribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2012. In 2010 the KSO teamed up with members of the Warner animation team to create a cartoon concert that featured The Animaniacs as well as classic Bugs Bunny, Tom and Jerry and Pink Panther capers.

“Live musical accompaniment to cartoons creates a unique audio/visual genre, allowing both musicians and audience to experience and appreciate the indelible impact and role music plays in our cinematic viewing” stated KSO Music Director James Cassidy. “Besides, cartoons are where most of us were first exposed to classical music and the sound of the orchestra.”

In the studio the orchestra provides the accompaniment, mood, action and many of the sound effects in support of the characters voices and antics. The KSO’s percussionists and musicians will be quite busy covering all of the various instruments that are called for in these scores.

Step back to 1929-39 and join Walt Disney, Bob Herzog and members of the Kentucky Symphony Orchestra under the direction of James Cassidy, for its season opener and a rare chance to see these classic cartoons accompanied live by orchestra — 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 3 at Florence Baptist Church at Mt. Zion. Reserved seating tickets are $24, $32, $40 (children ages 6-18 are 50% off). TIckets are available online at http://www.kyso.org, by phone (859) 431-6216 or at the door.

OMG Yes, Disney Rarities Music Coming! Walt Disney Records And Fairfax Classics Announce Details For The Silly Symphony Collection Box Set

OMG Yes, Disney Rarities Music Coming! Walt Disney Records And Fairfax Classics Announce Details For The Silly Symphony Collection Box Set

OMG Yes, Disney Rarities Music Coming! Walt Disney Records And Fairfax Classics Announce Details For The Silly Symphony Collection Box Set

Less than a year after Mickey Mouse’s debut in Steamboat Willie, the Walt Disney Studio embarked on a decade-long series of music-driven shorts whose breakthroughs would forever change the direction of animation and would have a massive impact on popular culture. The 75 cartoons – called Silly Symphonies – pioneered “three-strip” Technicolor, introduced Donald Duck, and created a pop music phenomenon with “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf?” They won seven Academy Awards® for Best Short Subject (Cartoon) between 1932 and 1939.

The Silly Symphony Collection is a first-of-its-kind box set from Walt Disney Records and Fairfax Classics featuring the complete restored soundtracks from all 75 Silly Symphony shorts from 1929-1939, with more than 8 hours of music over 16 vinyl LPs.

The limited edition collection is housed in 8 tip-on gatefold jackets with original animation art in a beautifully constructed foil-stamped and numbered slipcase. Soundtracks of Disney classics such as The Skeleton Dance by Carl Stalling, Three Little Pigs by Frank Churchill, and Donald Duck’s debut The Wise Little Hen by Leigh Harline will be presented in full for the first time ever on record. Each gatefold jacket includes detailed liner notes for every short by Disney historians J.B. Kaufman and Russell Merritt, authors of the definitive book on the series, Walt Disney’s Silly Symphonies: A Companion to the Classic Cartoon Series.

Kaufman adds, “It’s well known that the Silly Symphonies were built around music, but most of us can’t watch the films without being distracted by the visuals. This set is a brilliant idea, isolating the sound so that we can appreciate, for the first time, just how good the music is. I think it will change the way people look at these classic cartoons.”

Pre-order for the box set will begin at D23 EXPO: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, August 14th through August 16th, 2015 in Anaheim, California, and will continue online at Disney Music Emporium (www.sillysymphonycollection.com) on August 17th at 8:00 am PDT.  Pre-orders will ship to arrive in time for the holidays.

The Silly Symphony Collection will include a free digital download with purchase of the box set and will retail for $399.98. Each guest who pre-orders The Silly Symphony Collection will receive a free limited edition 10″ vinyl single featuring “The Skeleton Dance” on the A side and “Three Little Pigs” on the B side.

J.B. Kaufman and Russell Merritt, along with Restoration Producer Randy Thornton will be on hand at D23 EXPO 2015 signing The Silly Symphony Collection 10″ single on Friday, August 14th and Sunday, August 16th.

A set of 3 limited edition Silly Symphony postcards are being handed out in various locations throughout the D23 EXPO 2015 and fans can follow Fairfax Classics on Twitter (@fairfaxclassics) to find out how to obtain them.

Noted documentary director Steve Elkins has produced a short film that explores the historical significance of the Silly Symphonies and the making of The Silly Symphony Collection box set.  The Silly Symphony documentary features J.B. Kaufman and Russell Merritt, as well as Dave Bossert, Head of Special Projects at Walt Disney Animation Studios and Grammy®-winning producer Randy Thornton from Disney Music Group.  View and share the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3giN7LzMA3c
