This weekend marks the 20th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Marathon. On Sunday, January 13, the marathon will start at Epcot and the course takes runners through all four of Disney’s theme parks. To celebrate 20 years of this unique endurance event Disney has added two new features to the course. For the first time ever runners till run through the Walt Disney World Speedway which is typically reserved for stock cars and Indy cars. Additionally, the course will run through ESPN Wide World of Sports Champion stadium and around the bases of a field that typically hosts the Atlanta Braves spring training. Additional enhancements include surprise entertainment at mile 20 and a special 20th anniversary medal. The fun doesn’t end when you finish running. Disney has planned a new post-race party at Downtown Disney.

Other weekend events include a Health and Fitness Expo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports, a half marathon through Epcot and Magic Kingdom, a family friendly 5k run through Epcot and for the youngest children there will be kid races including a “diaper run” at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. For the die-hard runners there is a Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge that consists of running both the half marathon on January 12 and the marathon on January 13.
