“Everybody has problems. Everybody has bad times. Do we sacrifice all of the good times because of them? No…” -Phoebe Banks from Enchanted

1. “When Will My Life Begin?” from Tangled

Rapunzel can get more accomplished in a day than some of us could in a lifetime. Sometimes, all it takes is trying something new to gain a fresh perspective and spark your motivation. As Walt said, “We’re curious, and our curiosity keeps taking us down new paths.” If Rapunzel hadn’t embraced her curiosity, she may have never left her tower and started her new dream with Flynn. Get curious, and try something new today.

2. “Go the Distance” from Hercules

Alan Menken and David Zeppil’s, “Go the Distance”, is arguably one of the most underrated Disney power ballads of the 90s. This song is not only relatable; it’s powerful in every sense of the word. From the full orchestration to the incredible vocals by Roger Bart, this song sweeps you straight to the top of the world. Chills are mandatory from 1:14 to 1:18. Tears, optional.

3. “Fortuosity” from The Happiest Millionaire

This Sherman Brothers’ toe-tapper is the epitome of Main Street, U.S.A. The last live action film that Walt was involved in tells the story of an Irish immigrant, John Lawless, who becomes the beloved butler of one of Philadelphia’s most eccentric millionaires. The song, performed by Tommy Steele, says it all. “Just do your best, and leave the rest to fortuosity.”

4. “Whistle While You Work” from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

This tune has been inspiring many a diamond miner ever since Snow White premiered in December of 1937. But, “what if I can’t whistle?” you might be thinking. Well, you’ve got some options. If you’re lucky enough to have an office, try humming a merry tune. For those of us cubicle dwellers, think of a happy song and do a little dance when no one’s watching. The thrill will at least elicit a smile.

5. “Just Around the Riverbend” from Pocahontas

Pocahontas’ sense of adventure and confidence are something everyone should strive for. Even when faced with tough choices like, “Should I marry Kocoum?” she doesn’t lose hope. She embraces life’s challenges and has faith that if she follows her heart, it won’t lead her astray. None of us know what’s just around the riverbend, but isn’t that exciting? Let that excitement motivate you today.
