Kenneth Branagh to helm Disney's Live Action 'Cinderella'

Kenneth Branagh to helm Disney’s Live Action ‘Cinderella’

Disney has been hard at work creating Live Action adaptions of many of their beloved films. From ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to the all-new ‘Maleficent’ coming soon, there seems to be no stopping in the Live Action process, and I for one and happy and excited for many of the films.

It was announced some time ago that the company was working on development in an All-New telling of Cinderella as a live action film. Many little girls (including my own daughters) Love the iconic Disney Princess. Cinderella is most known as Disney’s highest Princess and hails from the classic 1950 animated classic from the company. And now she has been awarded the coveted role to come out of 2D animation.

Over the last few months many rumors have been around from a variety of actresses trying to get the role, many of which I think fans are just putting a great face to a character, and recently it was rumored that Amanda Seyfried was going to be Cinderella, but that too seems to be a rumor as the search is still on-going. The roles of the evil step mother we did announce some time ago as being played by Cate Blanchett, and the script was being helmed by Chris Weitz.

The film recently took a hit in production starting when director Mark Romanek of One Hour Photo fame, decided not to take on the project and left the seat open once again. I personally am not sure who would be best for the spot but now Kenneth Branagh has jumped into the Mouse House as director of the project. Kenneth is recently credited with the Tom Cruise film Jack Ryan. We will see how his vision will pan out.

The Live Action ‘Cinderella’ is set for a 2014 release date.
