The 
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales Original Motion Picture Soundtrack physical and digital soundtrack is set for release from Walt Disney Records on May 26, 2017, the same day the film opens in U.S. theaters.  As with the previous “Pirates of the Caribbean” films, and with a nod to its swashbuckling predecessors in the genre, music plays a integral role in “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” which features a score by Emmy®-winning composer Geoff Zanelli with melodies filled with excitement and intrigue as befits the pirates’ latest journey.

Composer Geoff Zanelli is a standout in the film and television scoring industry, garnering accolades and recognition for his diverse musical voice. Notably, his experience with the Pirates franchise goes back to its 2003 beginning, having contributed music and collaborated with composer Hans Zimmer.  Some of his other credits include Steven Spielberg’s “Into The West,” Disney’s “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” “The Pacific,” “Disturbia,” “Hitman,” “Outlander” and more recently “Mortdecai,” for which he collaborated with Grammy®-award winning Mark Ronson on both the co-written score and songs.

Zanelli said, “Pirates of the Caribbean was a dream project for me right from the very first film. To have served these iconic stories, which continue to inspire people young and old all over the world is easily one of the biggest highlights of my life.  Musically, I took the helm right as the world of ‘Pirates’ expanded with a darker and more emotional tale than ever before, and there was no shortage of inspiration each day. Because I approached this with passion equal to the filmmakers, the actors, and everyone else involved, I can say this about my score for ‘Dead Men Tell No Tales’:  I meant every note.”

Also available digitally is the bonus track  “He’s a Pirate” by Hans Zimmer vs. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.  The original theme was introduced in “The Curse of the Black Pearl” by Oscar®-winning composer Hans Zimmer (“Interstellar,” “The Dark Knight,” “The Lion King”) and has been re-recorded by Belgian DJ and music producer duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, who recently had two No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” Set to Debut in ScreenX Format

ScreenX, the world’s first multi-projection system that provides a 270-degree panoramic film viewing experience within a theatre setting, announced today that the fifth installment of Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise will be available in the immersive format. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is the first Disney film to be converted into the format, and will be available in seven countries. In addition to opening in the ScreenX format, the film will also be premiering in CJ 4DPLEX’s alternative immersive format, 4DX. The film is set to open on 373 4DX screens in 48 countries around the world.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” will be available at a total of 83 pre-existing ScreenX locations throughout the world. The pre-existing locations include Korea, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Indonesia and the United States.

As Lightning McQueen heads to the big screen alongside his new tech-savvy trainer Cruz Ramirez, Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 3” fuels two soundtrack releases—both available from Walt Disney Records on June 16 as the film opens in theaters nationwide. The Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack, features eight tracks—including original songs by Dan Auerbach and ZZ Ward, four covers by various artists, and two instrumental tracks from Brad Paisley. The Cars 3 Original Score Composed and Conducted by Randy Newman reunites the “Cars” franchise with the Oscar®-winning composer. Both soundtracks are available for pre-order tomorrow, May 19, 2017.

“Lightning McQueen is on the journey of a lifetime—traveling cross-country, revisiting the past and looking into his own heart and soul to answer some big questions,” said “Cars 3” director Brian Fee. “Just like the music in the first two ‘Cars’ movies, the songs and score in this film really help support the story we are telling.”

CARS MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK
The Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack features “Run That Race,” an original song written and performed by nine-time Grammy® winner Dan Auerbach that can be heard as the movie opens. “The song is about never giving up and always trying your best,” said Auerbach, who met with filmmakers prior to penning the song. “They showed me the storyboards and ran through the plot. I was able to read some of the dialogue and from there I had enough to piece together a story in my mind for the song.”

Auerbach will release Waiting on a Song, his second solo album, on June 2 via his new label, Easy Eye Sound.  

The soundtrack also features “Ride,” an original end-credit song performed by Hollywood Records artist ZZ Ward, featuring musician Gary Clark Jr. Written by Ward, Evan Bogart and Dave Bassett, the song was released by Walt Disney Records as a digital single on April 14. It was performed live by Ward April 17 on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars.” Ward’s sophomore album, The Storm, will be released June 30.

The soundtrack also features four cover songs, including two bonus tracks.*

  • “Kings Highway,” originally released in 1991 by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, makes a comeback courtesy of 23-year-old British singer-songwriter James Bay.
  • Bruce Springsteen’s 1984 hit “Glory Days” gets a modern-day makeover by Grammy®-nominated performer Andra Day, who voices Sweet Tea in the film—a performer in the Cotter Pin with a hairstyle reminiscent of Day’s signature look.  
  • *The Beatles’ classic 1965 song “Drive My Car” is back on the road, compliments of Hollywood Records artist Jorge Blanco.
  • *”Freeway of Love,” made famous in 1985 by Aretha Franklin, is performed for the soundtrack by actress Lea DeLaria, who also provides the voice of Miss Fritter, a school bus-turned-demolition-derby-queen in “Cars 3.”

Three-time Grammy®-winning singer, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer Brad Paisley, who has 24 No. 1 singles under his belt, was called on to create two instrumental tracks that are featured on the Cars 3 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. “Truckaroo” and “Thunder Hollow Breakdown” accompany the film’s action-packed Crazy 8 demolition derby sequence that puts Lightning and Cruz in the midst of total chaos. “Brad Paisley was part of both ‘Cars’ and ‘Cars 2,'” said Tom MacDougall, executive vice president of music at Disney. “We knew he could have some fun with a demolition derby, and he just killed it. His down-home country tracks really add to the scene’s action and humor.”

CARS 3 ORIGINAL SCORE SOUNDTRACK
Newman, who was behind the Oscar®-winning music in Disney·Pixar’s “Toy Story 3” and “Monsters, Inc.,” composed the score for the first “Cars” movie and penned the Oscar®-nominated song “Our Town.” For “Cars 3,” Newman created a score that reflects the heart and high-octane action of the film—21 tracks are included on the soundtrack. “Randy has a real connection to the ‘Cars’ world,” says MacDougall. “His ability to capture the feeling of this film, its characters, locations and the Americana theme throughout is extraordinary—the music is so naturally fluid and inspired. It really feels like Randy is coming home with this score.”

Newman used a 110-piece orchestra to record the score. The Cars 3 Original Score Composed and Conducted by Randy Newman is available June 16 from Walt Disney Records and can be pre-ordered HERE.

Walt Disney Records is set to release the digital soundtrack to Disneynature’s new film Born in China on April 21, 2017—the same day the film opens in theaters nationwide.  The album features original score composed by Emmy Award®-winning film and television composer, Barnaby Taylor, along with the original track “Everything Everything” performed by Island Records recording artist American Authors, who wrote the song after seeing—and being deeply inspired by—the film.  The music video and single are available today.  The video can be seen HERE. The story of “Born in China“—fun but emotional, intimate yet vast, and wild while heartfelt—called for a score that evoked the majesty of China’s natural world. Composer Barnaby Taylor is behind the Emmy®-winning music for “Wild China,” the BBC’s six-part landmark series that was executive produced by “Born in China” producer Brian Leith, and originally broadcast in 2008. “It’s a traditional Western orchestral score that’s infused with some lovely Chinese flavors,” says Leith of the “Born in China” score. “I think he’s done a fantastic job.”

 Says Taylor, “‘Born in China‘ celebrates the epic, sometimes other-worldly landscapes of China, while simultaneously revealing the most intimate moments in the lives of four charismatic animals: panda, monkey, chiru and snow leopard,” he says. “Musically linking these animals with an overarching theme is the semi-mythical crane, a bird that symbolizes rebirth—an ancient philosophy and belief system that has a strong vein in the ‘Born in China‘ film. Therefore, the music had to be intimate whilst also reflecting the varied regions of China.”

Given an array of animals featured in the film, Taylor applied individual themes to each of the central characters and infused the sounds of China into the score with a host of unique instruments, including the Tibetan horn, Mongolian fiddle, Guzheng (zither) and Chinese dulcimer.

Filmmakers called on the New York-based rock-pop band American Authors to provide the compelling and optimistic end-credit song. “‘Everything Everything’ is about how life is so much better when you’re with your best friends,” says band frontman Zachary Barnett. “There are so many exciting adventures in this world and they should be shared with loved ones. We wanted to channel each of the animals’ spirits and journeys into this song.”

The Born in China soundtrack will be available at digital retailers and streaming services on April 21. The Walt Disney Family Museum is pleased to announce the premiere of its eighteenth original exhibition, Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle. On view from May 18, 2017 to January 8, 2018, this original retrospective showcases the life and work of Eyvind Earle. Earle is best known as the lead stylist for Walt Disney’s classic feature Sleeping Beauty (1959) and for concept art that shaped such enduring favorites as Lady and the Tramp (1955) and Peter Pan (1953).

Reflecting on his time at The Walt Disney Studios, Earle once said, “I consider my six or seven years at Disney the greatest art school in the whole world, because I worked hard and fast with the very, very best men in the industry.” Beyond his work at The Studios, Earle’s distinctive interpretation of iconic American landscapes as a fine artist and printmaker continues to impact and inspire generations of artists and designers.

Co-curated by Ioan Szasz, CEO of Eyvind Earle Publishing, and Michael Labrie, Director of Collections and Exhibitions for the Walt Disney Family Foundation and The Walt Disney Family Museum, the artist’s first-ever comprehensive museum retrospective will feature more than 250 works, including intricate thumbnail concept paintings for Lady and the Tramp and evocative large-scale concept artworks for Sleeping Beauty. Alongside Earle’s work for The Walt Disney Studios is an extensive showcase of his fine art, including elaborate and lush landscapes, unique scratchboards, rare examples of sculpture, companion poetry, and commercial illustrations. In addition to signature landscapes and enchanting illustrations that are characteristic of Earle’s style, the exhibition will feature his limited edition serigraphs and lesser-known pieces, including cartoon drawings from his time in the U.S. Navy and commercial advertisements for American brands. A special component of the exhibition is Earle’s own treadle-powered printing press on which he created some of his collectible holiday cards.

This retrospective provides unique insight into Earle’s colorful life story, his inspiration, and his creative approach to the art-making process. Combined, these elements fueled an extraordinarily diverse career across a spectrum of traditional fine art, commercial design, and filmmaking.

“Eyvind was an honest and humble man, yet he was constantly challenging himself to push the boundaries of his own artistry with his enduring passion to explore, create and innovate,” said Szasz, who began working with the artist in 1988. “Whether it was through a modest snowy landscape for a Christmas card or a more intricate background concept for films like Sleeping Beauty, Earle brought magic to everything he touched.”

In conjunction with the exhibition, the Walt Disney Family Foundation Press will publish a fully illustrated 176-page catalogue. This lavish art book will showcase an unprecedented collection of artworks spanning Earle’s entire life as an artist—from his early sketches and watercolors to the ethereal oil paintings of his later career. Of the catalogue’s more than 250 pieces, 80 date from Earle’s time at The Walt Disney Studios; they include concept paintings for Sleeping Beauty (1959), Lady and the Tramp (1955), Academy Award–winning short Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Bloom (1953), and more. The catalogue is available for purchase at The Walt Disney Family Museum Store.

“You won’t have far to travel in the Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall, or turn many pages in this catalogue, to discover the beauty and magic of Eyvind’s work,” said Labrie. “From the scratchboards, cards, serigraphs, sculptures, and awe-inspiring landscapes, you get to ponder in a meadow, perch on a hillside, or soar above the towering cliffs captured, imagined, and shared by Eyvind Earle.”

When Earle passed away in 2000, he left behind a legacy of prolific artwork depicting a life’s journey that spans more than seven decades. Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle will bring a far-reaching and much deserved recognition to his influential career and the enduring impact of Earle’s magnificent artwork.

“This past year, the museum presented a comprehensive exhibition chronicling the exacting process that The Walt Disney Studios went through in the late 1930s to create the iconic film Pinocchio,” said Kirsten Komoroske, Executive Director of The Walt Disney Family Museum. “Now, with Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle, we are proud to provide our visitors with a deep look at Eyvind Earle’s intriguing and inspiring life and work, including his work at The Walt Disney Studios and his influence on a number of films—most notably, Sleeping Beauty.”

This special exhibition follows Eyvind Earle: An Exhibit of a Disney Legend which was on view at Forest Lawn Museum in Los Angeles from May 20, 2016 to January 1, 2017. This new exhibition adds additional works to fully represent the evolution of the artist’s style and to provide a complete retrospective of his life’s work. Awaking Beauty: The Art of Eyvind Earle is organized by The Walt Disney Family Museum and is presented in the Diane Disney Miller Exhibition Hall from May 18, 2017 to January 8, 2018.
