Jim Henson Company Hosts, Puppets for Puppetry Fundraiser with Host Dave Goelz

The Jim Henson Company is hosting “Puppets for Puppetry,” a fundraiser for The Center for Puppetry Arts honoring the esteemed puppeteer Dave Goelz, best known to fans around the world as the performer of iconic puppet characters like The Great Gonzo, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, Boober Fraggle, Traveling Matt, and many more. The event will be held at The Jim Henson Company’s historic Hollywood studio lot on September 24, 2016 – a doubly auspicious date for Henson friends and fans as it would have been Jim Henson’s 80th birthday. The unique live performance will be led by Tony Award-nominee John Tartaglia (Avenue Q) and promises to be a musical and fun evening.

The event benefits The Center for Puppetry Arts, whose mission is to inspire imagination, education and community through the global art of puppetry. The Atlanta-based nonprofit is the nation’s largest and only resource of its kind, featuring a worldwide puppetry collection, vibrant theatre spaces, and an education department that develops puppetry talent through workshops and performances. The Center for Puppetry Arts also uses the latest technology to offer its award-winning Distance Learning programs for PreK-adult through videoconferencing and recorded content.  The arts-infused workshops and interactive puppet performances are conducted via videoconferencing and are tailored to specific classroom topics and curriculum. The programs complement national curriculum standards in language arts, social studies, science, math and other areas and serve schools nationwide.

The Center for Puppetry Arts recently expanded to include a new gallery housing the Jim Henson Collection and the Worlds of Puppetry Global Collection. These two permanent exhibits together represent the most definitive display of both Henson puppets and other puppetry traditions from around the world.

“The Center for Puppetry Arts is the only location of its kind in the U.S., and is particularly special to me and the entire Henson family,” said Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company. “My father dedicated the Center for Puppetry Arts at its opening, and he continued to support both the Center and the art forms of adult and traditional puppetry throughout his years of success with the Muppets.”

Marvel Music’s Captain America: Civil War original motion picture soundtrack will be available in physical and digital formats on Friday, May 6, 2016.  The soundtrack features music composed and produced by Henry Jackman (“Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Captain Phillips” and “Big Hero 6”).  Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.

Jackman recorded the score at London’s Air Lyndhurst Studio and also serves as Soundtrack Producer.  The Executive Soundtrack Producers include Anthony & Joe Russo, Kevin Feige, Nate Moore and Dave Jordan.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Emily VanCamp, Marisa Tomei, Tom Holland, Frank Grillo and Martin Freeman, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige, p.g.a. producing. Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Disney’s extraordinary 3D adventure film The Jungle Book, directed by Jon Favreau captivated audiences and brought a mighty roar to the box office as the exhilarating motion picture generated approximately 43% of its domestic opening weekend gross on 3D equipped screens. RealD 3D accounted for an estimated $31 million of the weekend’s total $103.6 million domestic box office.

Internationally approximately 63% of the film’s $136.1 million came from the 3D format led by China (98%), Germany (83%), Brazil (73%), Russia (60%),  Mexico (47%) and UK & Ireland (39%).

“The Jungle Book takes fans on a magical journey, and through the latest state-of-the-art technology, RealD 3D helped transport audiences to the lush imaginary world that director Jon Favreau truly envisioned when making the film in this enhanced visual format,” said Anthony Marcoly, President of Worldwide Cinema at RealD. “This is the kind of entertainment that was made to be seen in 3D on a big screen. 3D motion pictures continue to drive excitement at the worldwide box office. Coming beyond The Jungle Book, audiences can look forward to Ghostbusters, Captain America: Civil War, Independence Day: Resurgence, Alice Through The Looking Glass, and more.  Audiences will be able to select from more 3D titles this summer compared to last year.

Beginning most recently with Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice through Kubo in August, there will be more than 20 3D visually enhanced motion pictures to choose from, compared to 10 films released during a comparable period last year. In calendar year 2016, 35 motion pictures will be presented in 3D compared to 27 domestic releases in 2015.

Existing investors 83North, Carmel Ventures and FirstTime Ventures also participated in the investment round.

Playbuzz will use the investment to further enhance its proprietary content-engagement platform and expand its sponsored content business, which already works with many of the world’s leading brands to create and distribute native advertising campaigns at scale.

“Playbuzz enables publishers and brands to create content that matches today’s content-consumption habits, while generating meaningful engagement and new monetization opportunities,” said Shaul Olmert, co-founder and CEO of Playbuzz. “The support of global leaders in media, such as Saban and Disney, will enable us to expand both our editorial reach and sponsored content business.”

The Playbuzz platform is used by tens of thousands of publishers, brands and content creators to create and distribute content in formats that optimize audience engagement and social distribution. Examples of Playbuzz’s innovative content formats include slideshows, flip cards, galleries, quizzes, lists and video snaps.

The popularity of content created using Playbuzz is skyrocketing, as engagement metrics for such items outpace those of traditional digital formats, such as articles and long-form video. Playbuzz-powered content generates average item completion rates of up to 94% and social share rates as high as 15%.

All the magic and excitement of the past, present, and future of Disney entertainment will come together once again when D23: The Official Disney Fan Club presents D23 Expo 2017 at the Anaheim Convention Center the weekend of July 14–16. Each of Disney’s magical worlds will unite under one roof to celebrate what’s new and what’s on the horizon from theme parks, television, music, gaming, and films, including Pixar, Star Wars, and Marvel.

Highlights planned for D23 Expo include the Disney Legends Ceremony, which honors the talented men and women who have made significant contributions to the Disney legacy; an all-new exhibit curated by the Walt Disney Archives; D23 Expo’s costume contest, Mousequerade, showcasing the most creative designs by fans; the D23 Expo Emporium, where Disney fans can buy, sell, and trade Disney collectibles, memorabilia, merchandise, and more; and the D23 Expo Design Challenge. The 2017 Expo will feature a massive show floor full of immersive experiences and special opportunities to see what’s next for Disney around the world—and guests may run into their favorite Disney stars, characters, Imagineers, animators, and filmmakers. Guests previewed costumes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens and were the first to hear about the new Star Wars-themed lands coming to Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. They also enjoyed a look back at Disney’s rich history through extraordinary panels, presentations, and exhibits and discovered the newest entertainment, technology, and products coming from Disney.

Advance tickets for D23 Expo 2017 will go on sale at D23Expo.com beginning July 14, 2016. D23 Members will receive special pricing on both one- and three-day tickets to the event, which is open to the general public. D23 Gold and Charter Members will also be entitled to special benefits at the 2017 Expo. Gold Members will also have an opportunity to purchase the Sorcerer Package, which provides a host of special benefits and amenities. Ticket prices will be announced this summer.
