Disney’s Frozen App And More Nominated for The Tabby Awards 2015: The Best iPad and Android Tablet Apps

The Tabby Awards, the global competition for the best tablet-optimized apps, announces today the nominees of its 2015 consumer app competition.

Disney's Frozen App: Up for a 2015 Tabby

Disney’s Frozen App: Up for a 2015 Tabby

Over 200 iPad and Android apps from publishers in 16 countries entered the competition earlier this year.

An international judging panel of independent app professionals reviewed these apps over the past few weeks and rated them across a range of criteria. The selection process, supervised by judging chair Otto Toth, CTO of The Huffington Post in New York resulted in a short list of 98 nominees.

These nominees are grouped in 11 categories for Android apps and games and 24 categories for iPad apps and games.

Finalist publishers include well-known names such as A+E Networks, Adobe, American Greetings, Disney, Expedia, Food Network, Harrods, Morningstar, Nickelodeon, Rosetta Stone, Target, The New Yorker, Ubisoft, Yahoo, as well as many innovative mobile publishers. Twelve countries from four continents are represented among these nominees.

“It is an honor to be part of the judging process for this year’s Tabby Awards,” said Otto Toth. “The optimized tablet app market is thriving in a major way, and it was impressive to see all the great nominations this year. The best tablet apps keep getting better!”

The full list of finalist apps is available on the Tabby Awards web site at TabbyAwards.com.

The judges will now proceed with a final round and select, in each category, the very best tablet app as a Tabby Awards winner.

In parallel to this judging process, the public will also have its say. Tablet users from across the world are invited to vote at TabbyAwards.com for the Tabby Awards Users’ Choice among nominees in each category, from now until June 14.

Winners and Users’ Choice picks will be announced this summer.

While the consumer app competition is ongoing, The Tabby Awards will soon launch its second 2015 competition, for business and professional apps. Publishers eager to have their app recognized as one of the best mobile apps for work and productivity will be welcome to enter the Tabby Awards /Business competition in the coming weeks. (To be updated on the submissions periods and guidelines, app developers and publishers are invited to sign up for theTabby Awards mailing list.)

New Original Song “Making Today A Perfect Day” Featured In New Animated Short “Frozen Fever”

New Original Song "Making Today A Perfect Day" Featured In New Animated Short "Frozen Fever"

New Original Song “Making Today A Perfect Day” Featured In New Animated Short “Frozen Fever”

“Frozen Fever” welcomes back to the big screen the voices that helped bring the “Frozen” favorites to life, and introduces a new song, “Making Today a Perfect Day.” Beginning today for a limited time, the track is available exclusively at iTunes (iTunes.com/FrozenFever).

Kristen Bell (Showtime’s “House of Lies”) once again lends her voice to Anna, and Idina Menzel (Broadway’s “If/Then”) returns as the voice of Elsa. Jonathan Groff (Fox’s “Glee”) voices Kristoff, and Josh Gad (“The Comedians”) provides the voice of unforgettable snowman Olaf. Oscar®-winning songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez (“Up Here”) and Robert Lopez (“Broadway’s “The Book of Mormon”) wrote the all-new song for the short, and composer Christophe Beck (“Cake”) provides the score.

In “Frozen Fever,” it’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff are determined to give her the best celebration ever, but when Elsa catches a cold, her powers may put more than just the party at risk.  The tale is told musically with “Making Today a Perfect Day,” with Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff and Josh Gad lending their voices to the original song.

According to the songwriters, “Making Today A Perfect Day” showcases Elsa’s great desire to surprise Anna—all while battling an ever-worsening cold. “I think on some deep level,” says Lopez, “she knows she shouldn’t be doing this party. She should be in bed. But Elsa is fierce and her love for her sister is fierce. So the song has a really intense drive to it—especially the piano.”

Adds Anderson-Lopez, “We wanted it to be that perfect sunny-afternoon song so that it fought against the situation that she’s getting sick; that adds to the comedy.”

Reuniting with the performers was like getting together with old friends, says Anderson-Lopez. “I feel like we’ve been through something extraordinary together and that connection will never go away.”

Directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, produced by Peter Del Vecho and Aimee Scribner, and executive produced by John Lasseter, “Frozen Fever” opens March 13, 2015, in front of Disney’s live-action “Cinderella.” The “Cinderella” soundtrack is also available on CD.

Port Adventures Immerse Disney Cruise Line Guests in Adventure and Culture on 2015 Norwegian Fjords Sailings

Anna and Elsa visit Norway with Disney Cruise Line

Anna and Elsa visit Norway with Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line invites families to explore culturally rich and exotic locales, with Port Adventures like only Disney can do, during its 2015 Norwegian Fjords sailings.

From June to August 2015, the Disney Magic returns to Europe, visiting the Norwegian Fjords and Iceland for the first time. Guests exploring these new ports, steeped in Viking history, will be treated to richly diverse destinations that showcase iconic locations, enchanting cultures, tantalizing cuisine and unrivaled experiences.

To elevate guests’ experiences in Norway, Disney Cruise Line Port Adventures are designed to entertain and inspire both children and adults—in true Disney fashion—with an extra dash of pixie dust.

“Frozen” Festivities and Viking Ventures in Ålesund

For the first time in forever, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff from the animated hit “Frozen” join Disney Cruise Line guests in Alesund, marking their very first appearance in the land that inspired their story. Only Disney guests are invited to a Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmore Open Air Museum where the festivities culminate with the grand arrival of the beloved sisters and their ice-loving companion, Kristoff, who join in the lively revelry. After being personally greeted by their “Frozen” friends, and surrounded by the idyllic beauty of Norway, guests dance to local musicians and sample tasty Norwegian specialties, including svele, a traditional sweet pancake from the region.

Another Ålesund adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line includes a quest to a Viking village on the island of Giske, where guests head back in history to meet the village chieftain and experience the Viking world. Adventurers find themselves in the middle of daily Viking life and mingle with members of the Norse families, experiencing first-hand the traditions, authentic food and games that come with being a Viking. Guests also learn traditional Viking handiwork and put it to practice by crafting their own leather bags.

Iconic Fjord Horses in Olden

Guests travel from the quaint village of Olden on a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, visiting a Norwegian Fjord Horse Center to experience one of the world’s oldest breeds and one of the country’s national symbols, the Norwegian Fjord Horse. The adventure includes an up-close look at the stallions, mares and foals in a tour of the stables. Guests also have an opportunity to interact with the horses and see these magnificent animals in action. This includes watching a dynamic riding performance and taking in the picturesque scenery during a carriage ride around the grounds.

A Taste of Norway in Kristiansand

For those with a culinary passion, a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line in centuries-old Kristiansand provides the perfect hands-on cooking experience. Guests don their aprons and create Nordic specialties first-hand, such as succulent wild game filets and krumkaker, a heavenly waffle cookie typically served around Christmastime. The experience culminates with guests enjoying their sumptuous meal paired with a glass of wine.

The Great Outdoors of Geiranger

From the port of Geiranger, crowning jewel of the Norwegian fjords, comes an experience just for Disney Cruise Line guests – a visit to the Gjaera Mountain Farm where the local family provides an up-close look at daily life. Children join Disney Cruise Line youth counselors to create one-of-a-kind stamped pillows in the farm’s printing studio using handmade wooden stamps that have been passed down through the family’s many generations. Meanwhile, adults explore the farm and its microbrewery, sampling fresh brews. After building up an appetite, everyone reunites for a taste of traditional Norwegian foods produced at the farm including juices, breads, creams and cured meats.

Another journey brings Disney Cruise Line guests to the Herdalsetra Mountain Farm, where on the way to a nearby scenic valley they will enjoy a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall made famous in Norwegian folklore. Guests tour the enchanting farm brimming with 30 farmhouses and more than 450 sprightly goats scampering around the property. They also sample the farm’s fresh cheeses including Norway’s famous brown cheese – similar to sweet fudge.

Those looking for even more adventure will find it kayaking through the Geirangerfjord. Gliding over dazzling turquoise waters, guests will get an up-close look at stunning waterfalls roaring down into the fjord and the majestic mountains along the water’s edge.

Folk Dancing and Discovery in Molde

Outside of Molde, the “town of roses,” Disney Cruise Line guests arrive for an afternoon at one of the largest folk museums in Norway, the Romsdal Open Air Museum, which encompasses more than 50 buildings. Guests explore the century-old property, including lush gardens, farmhouses, smokehouses and a chapel, and experience a spirited performance of Norwegian folk dancing featuring local children in traditional regional outfits.

“The Land of Fire and Ice”—Reykjavik, Iceland

Only Disney Cruise Line families can get “fired up” during an exhilarating trip to the edge of a local lava field that gives adventurers an up-close look at volcanic craters and lava fields that make up the country of Iceland. Families take part in an art workshop on the edge of the hardened lava field, using real lava to create their very own framed lava art.

Classic “can’t miss” Icelandic landmarks take center stage on the tour of The Golden Circle. On this visit to some of Iceland’s most iconic attractions, guests will explore a national park, a glittering waterfall, popping hot springs and a high-tech geothermal energy exhibition. Over a barbecue lunch in the woods offered exclusively to Disney Cruise Line guests, troll wife Gryla and her helpers tell the legend of troll giant Bergthor of Blafell, whose exceptionally large grave, headstone and ring from his walking stick can be found in a nearby churchyard.

Details on all Disney Cruise Line shore excursions can be found on the Port Adventures section of disneycruise.com.

Land of “Frozen” Coming to Disney Cruise Line This Summer

Land of "Frozen" Coming to Disney Cruise Line This Summer

Land of “Frozen” Coming to Disney Cruise Line This Summer

Beginning in summer 2015, Disney Cruise Line guests can immerse themselves in the animated hit “Frozen” with brand-new experiences inspired by the film, including a spectacular deck party, a three-song stage show production number, new character meet and greets, storybook adventures ashore and more.

A Day of Frozen Fun, Including New Deck Party

Debuting this summer, on select Disney Magic and Disney Wonder sailings to Europe and Alaska, Disney Cruise Line guests are transported to the land of “Frozen” when the ship is transformed into a winter wonderland and a day of frozen fun culminates with an extravagant celebration with friends from the Kingdom of Arendelle.

On one special morning, guests will awake to discover a magical freeze has overtaken the atrium lobby with sparkling icicles adorning the grand staircase, resembling the majestic mountain-top ice palace of Queen Elsa.

Icy adventures and fun for the entire family throughout the day include all-new meet and greets and themed experiences:

  • Memorable moments with Anna, Elsa, and for the first time in forever, Kristoff and Olaf
  • “Anna’s Chase for the Chocolate” scavenger hunt for those who share Anna’s sense of adventure, with a special surprise for finishing the game
  • “Do You Want to Build a Snowman” activity where kids take on Elsa’s magical powers to make snow and ice
  • “The Maypole Swirl and Twirl” for families to learn a traditional Scandinavian dance spinning and braiding giant ribbons
  • “Frozen” themed dining experience, including a menu inspired by traditional Nordic fare and special dishes inspired by the film

The evening fun kicks off with “Freezing the Night Away with Anna, Elsa and Friends,” a family-friendly interactive deck party featuring the famous royal sisters of Arendelle and their fun-loving Nordic companions. By now, the freeze has spread to the upper decks of the ship, with giant snowflakes, icicles and snow-covered rocks.

The celebration begins with a high-energy line dance, set to the movie’s ice cutting scene, featuring the arrival of Kristoff, impressively twirling his ice picks, and Princess Anna.

Anna and Kristoff’s beloved companions, Sven, the trolls and Olaf, make virtual appearances at the party. Sven engages the crowd in reindeer games like “Sven Says” and the “Troll Stroll,” and Olaf leads a sing along to his signature song, “In Summer.”

Elsa arrives with a snowy gust of wind, calling on guests to sing “Let it Go” with her as she conjures up a wintry spectacle to cool things down for Olaf. In true Disney fashion, Elsa unleashes her magic, sending a chill through everyone as the powerful Academy Award-winning song echoes from the ship.

The evening concludes with more family dancing on the pool deck, followed by fun just for adults in the nightclub featuring dance performances and frozen specialty drinks.

New Production Number in “Disney Dreams”

This summer, friends from “Frozen” are making their stage show debut at sea in the Walt Disney Theatre aboard the Disney Magic. In the Disney Cruise Line original production, “Disney Dreams … An Enchanted Classic,” Anna, Elsa and Olaf join the line up of beloved Disney characters who together teach a young girl the power of her dreams.

Brand-new scenes featuring “Frozen” characters include renditions of three popular songs: “Let it Go,” “For the First Time in Forever” and “In Summer.” The new show segment is a heartfelt, humorous and memorable tribute to the “Frozen” film, preserving its endearing and playful tones with an inspiring message. Special effects are magical, with a snowfall throughout the theatre and a breathtaking transformation of the young girl’s room into her own ice palace.

Magical Meet and Greets

Olaf will be giving warm hugs when he joins Anna and Elsa on their royal tour of the Disney Cruise Line ships, beginning this summer. Children and families will have the opportunity to meet and take photographs with their favorite “Frozen” friends on the Disney Fantasy, Disney Dream, Disney Wonder and Disney Magic.

Adventures Ashore in Norway

Disney Cruise Line guests who travel aboard the Disney Magic to Norway, the land that inspired Arendelle from “Frozen,” will have the opportunity to join exciting new Port Adventures that bring this fairytale setting to life. One signature adventure ashore in Alesund, Norway, created exclusively for Disney Cruise Line, will immerse guests in the splendor and charm of Norway, with the help of Anna and Elsa, in an enchanting storybook village.

Other shore excursions take Disney Cruise Line guests to discover the breathtaking natural wonders, stunning architecture and rich Scandinavian culture depicted in the film. Seven and nine-night voyages begin June 6, 2015, sailing through Norwegian fjords and calling on ports including Stavanger, Alesund, Geiranger, Molde, Olden and Bergen, Norway.

Olaf’s Summertime Freeze on Castaway Cay

With the help of everyone’s favorite snowman, Disney Cruise Line is cooling down Castaway Cay with the addition of Olaf’s Summertime Freeze bar. Serving non-alcoholic specialty frozen drinks in souvenir cups, the creative menu features refreshing beverages such as “Olaf’s Flurry Freeze,” “Sven’s Carrot Delight” and “Warm Hugs.” Olaf’s Summertime Freeze opens summer 2015 near the Pelican Point tram stop by Castaway Cay Family Beach.

Disneyland Resort Offers Southern California Residents Limited-Time Special Tickets As ‘Frozen Fun’ Debuts in Disney California Adventure Park

January 8, 2015 Disneyland No Comments
The Disneyland Resort introduces spectacular new "Frozen Fun"

The Disneyland Resort introduces spectacular new “Frozen Fun”

The Disneyland Resort kicks off 2015 with a special ticket offer exclusively for Southern California residents, with options for two or three days of magic and adventure at special prices. For a limited time, residents may purchase the tickets to experience new “Frozen Fun” at Disney California Adventure Park and also enjoy classic attractions and entertainment throughout the Disneyland Resort.

The Southern California Resident tickets* are available beginning Jan. 7, the same day as two premieres – “Frozen Fun” at Hollywood Land, in Disney California Adventure Park, and a “Frozen” show at Fantasy Faire in Disneyland Park. “Frozen Fun” will entertain guests for a limited time and includes an elegant new location where guests may greet sisters Anna and Elsa, from the Disney animated blockbuster “Frozen.”

To explore the new “Frozen” experiences, as well as the other fun and excitement at the Disneyland Resort, Southern California residents may use the special tickets to visit one park per day (either park) or purchase Park Hopper tickets for a two- or three-day period. The offer has four purchase options: a 2-day ticket with choice of one park per day for $139; a 2-day Park Hopper ticket for $178; a 3-day ticket with choice of one park per day for j$169, or a 3-day Park Hopper for $208.

With these limited-time tickets, Southern California residents have the flexibility to make memories with family and friends over two or three days, from Jan. 7 through May 21, 2015.* (Dates blocked are March 20-April 4, 2015.) The sooner a purchase is made, the more time guests will have to return for a second or third visit.

‘Frozen Fun’ at Disney California Adventure Park

“Frozen Fun” in Disney California Adventure, a new limited-time offering, includes “Anna & Elsa’s Royal Welcome,” an elegant location inside the Disney Animation building for Anna and Elsa to receive visitors. Guests may reserve a time to meet the charming sisters by utilizing a Return Time ticket, available just outside the Animation building. Elsewhere in the Disney Animation building, guests at the Animation Academy will be asked “Do You Want to Draw a Snowman?” – with an Olaf drawing experience.

Another element of “Frozen Fun” is “For the First Time in Forever – A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration,” which transforms the Muppet*Vision 3D Theatre into the Crown Jewel Theatre of Arendelle. When Anna, Elsa and Kristoff take part in a comedic retelling of their story, musical sequences (and lyrics) are shown on the theatre’s large screen, and guests are invited to sing along.

Next door, in Stage 17, “Olaf’s Snow Fest” creates a winter scene where guests may meet and share warm hugs with Olaf. A giant play area with real snow encourages guests of all ages to build snow creations and zip down a snow slide. (Note: “Olaf’s Snow Fest” concludes April 30, 2015.)

After dark, just outside the entrance to “Olaf’s Show Fest,” the area transforms into “Freeze the Night! A Family Dance Party.” Guests will “chill out” in an interactive party that celebrates all things “Frozen” with exciting music, games, photo opportunities, drinks and snacks, ice sculptors and plenty of super-cool nighttime energy. Guests also may look for a friendly likeness of the “Frozen” character Marshmallow, posing for photos.

Exciting Attractions Throughout the Disneyland Resort

Additional “Frozen” experiences can be found in Disneyland, where the Fantasy Faire team of Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones put their unique spin on the “Frozen” story. They have adapted it for the Royal Theatre, featuring their own wacky performances in key roles, along with Anna, Elsa and the Faire Maidens. Anna and Elsa also make daily “pre-parade” appearances on their own float immediately preceding “Mickey’s Soundsational Parade” in Disneyland.

Southern California residents using the special tickets may enjoy a variety of classic attractions and entertaining shows. These include voyages to a galaxy far, far away via Star Tours, “the wildest ride in the wilderness” aboard Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland and an exciting run on the California Screamin’ coaster at Disney California Adventure. Cars Land in Disney California Adventure takes guests to Radiator Springs from the Disney●Pixar animated classic “Cars,” offering a ride on the extremely popular Radiator Springs Racers. Guests also may enjoy spectacular shows such as “Disney’s Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular” in Disney California Adventure or “Mickey and the Magical Map” and “Fantasmic!” in Disneyland. Themed dining locations range from Jolly Holiday Café on Main Street, U.S.A., in Disneyland to the Carthay Circle Restaurant and Lounge, Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill restaurants in Disney California Adventure.

The special 2-day and 3-day tickets are an ideal way to catch all the fun, but they won’t be available for long.  Southern California residents must purchase tickets by May 14, 2015. Tickets expire after May 21, 2015 and blockout dates apply.  They can be purchased at Disneyland.com/tickets, The Disney Stores, Vons and other retail locations, as well as any Disneyland Resort ticket booth.  Guests who purchase tickets online may print their tickets at home. When purchased in advance, 3-day tickets include one Magic Morning** early entry to Disneyland Park, which provides an extra hour of play on select days before the park opens to the general public. This benefit is not available to tickets purchased at Disneyland Resort ticket booths.

For restrictions, visit http://Disneyland.com/2day. For park hours and entertainment schedules, guests may review the Disneyland Resort daily calendar.

Through March 26, special hotel offers are available for guests who want to turn their Disneyland Resort visit into a getaway, including a stay at any of the three Disneyland Resort hotels. Guests may save up to 25 percent on premium rooms for select nights at a Disneyland Resort hotel for travel from January 4 through February 12, 2015, and up to 20 percent for travel from February 13 through March 26, 2015, if booked by February 12.***  Disneyland Resort hotel guests also may enjoy Extra Magic Hour morning admission to a Disneyland Resort theme park on applicable days.
