Doritos Rocks Out With ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ for Out-of-this-World Soundtrack Release

April 28, 2017 Disney News, Marvel No Comments
Doritos Rocks Out With 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2'

Doritos Rocks Out With ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’

The galactic beats are dropping once more…snackable style.

Through a collaboration with Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Doritos, one of the marquee brands from PepsiCo’s Frito-Lay division, is helping introduce the world – and galaxy – to the hotly anticipated film soundtrack.

Marvel Studios’ Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 soundtrack will be available in out-of-this-world fashion via custom Doritos bags featuring a retro cassette tape deck-inspired player built right into the packaging that plays the full soundtrack. Consumers can purchase the custom bags starting Friday, April 28 on Amazon.com/Doritos while supplies last, and Doritos will also help unveil the soundtrack at special events in New York and Los Angeles.

The unique soundtrack release is part of a collaboration between Doritos and Marvel that also features Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 branding on Doritos packaging nationwide in support of the upcoming May 5 movie premiere.

“The soundtrack to the first Guardians of the Galaxy film was a hit and became immensely popular with music fans, so we wanted to create a unique way for fans to experience the second installment,” said Ryan Matiyow, senior director of marketing, Frito Lay North America. “This collaboration across entertainment and music will give fans a new and different way to experience both the soundtrack and Doritos snacks.”

Released in July 2014, the first film’s soundtrack garnered unparalleled success: it reached No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first soundtrack album in history consisting of entirely previously released songs to top the chart; it topped the Billboard Top Soundtrack chart for 11 consecutive weeks and 16 weeks in total; and it has sold more than 1 million copies in the U.S. and has been certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

“Marvel and Doritos have had such a good relationship through the years,” said Mindy Hamilton, SVP of Global Partnerships at Marvel Entertainment. “We have a very similar set of core fans, so we wanted to maximize availability of this soundtrack by making it as accessible in a unique way that only Doritos and Marvel could do. What’s cooler than buying a bag of Doritos with the soundtrack built in?”

Doritos will also keep the beats going by encouraging fans to “Rock Out Loud” by belting out one of the soundtrack’s iconic songs at pop-up recording booths in New York and Los Angeles on May 5 – the day of the movie premiere. By showing their love for the music, fans will have the chance to win various prizes, including the custom cassette player replica Doritos bags, concert and other event tickets, and free bags of Doritos. The recording booths will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET at Greeley Square near Sixth Avenue and Broadway in New York City and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. PT on the corner of Hollywood and Highland in Hollywood, Calif.

Silence is Golden: Disney’s Speechless Characters

Silence is Golden: Disney's Speechless Characters

Silence is Golden: Disney’s Speechless Characters

by:  D-Team: Cassie Kidd

Every Disney movie has comedic relief characters. These characters are usually the underrated heroes that the protagonist need in order to triumph over evil and defeat the bad guy. Oftentimes, these characters become the most beloved. Take Olaf, for example. One of the most recognizable characters from Frozen is a Snowman (whom, I hear, likes to give warm hugs). But this post is not for the Olafs of the Disney Universe. Today, we pay homage to the comedic relief characters that have never said a word!

Carpet – Aladdin

Disney GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Carpet goes through a lot of pain to keep Aladdin on his track to win Princess Jasmine and defeat Jafar. He gets stepped on, pulled, and even unraveled for the cause, but he maintains a playful and humorous demeanor throughout the franchise. He’s excellent at chess and is always up for boxing or even a rousing game of hide-and-seek. Take a bow, Carpet!

Abu – Aladdin

Abu is Aladdin’s right-hand monkey. Abu has Aladdin’s back through thick and thin, and he often is a better judge of character than his protagonist. Ah, if only he could communicate that through more than suspicious looks and threatening screeches. Luckily, he understands Aladdin perfectly and is always ready to act himself out of sticky situations. Abu is a tightly-wound ball of energy ready to respond to anyone picking on him. You go, Abu!

Raja – Aladdin

Aladdin is a wealth of silent characters. Raja is another fine example of a character that impacts the development of a protagonist and the outcome of the story. Raja is Jasmine’s only friend. He protects her from annoying suitors by attacking their trousers and insulting them. He is affectionate and expressive with as much sass and spunk as the Princess herself!

Ed – The Lion King

Oh, Ed. When he was a cub he must have been dropped on his head, that’s for sure. Ed understands the world around him but just cannot seem to fit in. Whether he is getting a bum full of thorns or smacked with a branch, this particular hyena can never catch a break – which makes for an excellent source of comedic relief for the viewers. Ed’s laugh and awkward moments are more than enough to send any child into a giggle fit without saying a word.

Meeko – Pocahontas

This hungry little raccoon is always getting himself into trouble. He is a stark contrast of Percy the pug, whom he is always dragging into mischief with him. He takes Percy’s food, interrupts his bubble baths, and tricks him into sticky situations – like a run-in with Grandmother Willow. Meeko is a free spirit that knows what he likes and isn’t afraid to go get it. (It’s usually biscuits).

Flit – Pocahontas

This little hummingbird does his best to keep Meeko in line. He is constantly prodding Meeko into doing the right thing, and is constantly falling short. He is an expressive little creature that can’t help but get in the way on occasion, and it usually hurts! Poor Flit has been sat on and even gotten his beak stuck in a tree. After a quick squeaky rant he is back to his sweet and helpful demeanor to support Pocahontas.

Percy – Pocahontas

This little pug is as tightly-wound as they come. He is prim and proper and has no time for Meeko’s shenanigans. He is easily flustered by Meeko’s antics, but must always have the last bark in the matter (or try to, anyway). He follows Meeko on strange adventures, barking in protest the entire time. He gets dirtier and angrier as the adventures progress, and eventually gives in to his animal instinct to become friends with the annoying raccoon.

Cri-Kee – Mulan

This little cricket was purchased under the assumption that he is lucky – and he sure seems to be! Cri-Kee is with Mulan through all of her adventures, and her biggest mishap, as well. Cri-Kee single-handedly takes down the Matchmaker in an awkward fit of ink and tea. He then accompanies Mulan on her journey to war to provide luck and support for other missions, like the bombing of the mountain or the fake letter of redirection. Cri-Kee packs a lot of talent and humor into one tiny package!

The Man with the Ice Cream Cone – Lilo & Stitch

Lilo is a strange girl looking for people as strange as she is. In her adventure with Stitch, one person in particular makes several silent appearances. The Man with the Ice Cream Cone is somehow always in the right place at the right time for comedic purposes – and he always loses his ice cream for the sake of a laugh.

Juju – The Princess and the Frog

Juju is an incredibly laid-back snake. He lets Mama Odi walk all over him and even turn him into other animals. He gives her all the support a blind voo-doo lady needs with all the facial expressions she will never see. His reactions are priceless, from her wake-up call to smooches, Juju has the demeanor of a dog which makes for quality family-friendly laughs.

Pascal – Tangled

Tangled GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

For being limited by his size, this firecracker of a Chameleon goes above and beyond to help Rapunzel realize her dream. He always has her best interests at heart and is obviously protective of her against strangers. His color-changing with mood and setting, and his odd, but effective, waking antics make for a unique sidekick for the lost Princess.

Maximus – Tangled

Another Tangled favorite is Maximus. Maximus is a fierce palace horse with a feisty attitude. He doesn’t have time for lame excuses, but he may take a moment for an apple [bushel]. His determined nature gets him into some pretty interesting predicaments, but he presses on! Whether he’s tracking down, monitoring, or rescuing Flynn Ryder [Eugene], he is always providing top notch military horse service and laughs.

Kevin – Up

Kevin’s antics are as eccentric as her feathers. Her stealthy hide-and-seek skills are legendary because of her ability to climb into awkward spaces. She will do anything for chocolate and becomes a big help in Carl’s quest. She is completely unfazed by negativity and will do anything to protect her babies.

Sven – Frozen

Though Kristoff likes to speak for his antlered friend, Sven never speaks throughout the Frozen film (or short). He is a silent and sassy reindeer that is full of surprises. He provides Anna and Kristoff the transportation support they need in their adventure – along with plenty of laughs! He’s curious and gentle, but clearly a carrot-addict. Olaf is lucky that Sven is such a sweet creature or he may have had need for a new nose.

Heihei – Moana

HeiHei is the  most unorthodox travel companion anyone could ever ask for, but turns out to be the perfect chicken for the job of returning the heart of Tafiti. He is a few feathers short of brilliance and exceptionally uncoordinated which makes him the perfect comedic relief for kids and adults to enjoy!

The Ocean – Moana

Moana GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY

Everyone knows the Ocean can be a bit temperamental, but Disney brought that attitude to life in Moana! From playing with baby Moana’s hair to stuffing HeiHei in a basket to prevent him from falling off the boat, the Ocean certainly has a mind of its own in this magical journey.

Miami Children’s Museum will launch the first-ever museum exhibit based on Disney Junior’s hit series, “The Lion Guard,” which continues the epic storytelling of “The Lion King” and follows the adventures of Kion, the second-born cub of Simba and Nala, and his diverse group of friends as they unite to protect the Pride Lands. The exhibit will debut at Miami Children’s Museum in January 2018 for six months and then travel to other children’s museums across the country through 2022.

Spotlighting important learning areas such as social and self-development, problem solving, creative thinking and arts & culture, this one-of-a-kind exhibit will bring “The Lion Guard” story to life for young children and their families. Through hands-on activities and interactive and imaginative play, guests will be transported to the Pride Lands to discover the unique traits of each member of The Lion Guard team – Kion, the leader of the group and the fiercest in all of the Pride Lands; Bunga, a fearless honey badger and the Pride Lands’ bravest; Fuli, a confident cheetah and the fastest in the Pride Lands; Beshte, a friendly and good-spirited hippo and the strongest in the Pride Lands; and Ono, an intellectual egret who is keenest of sight – that allow them to work together to maintain balance in the Circle of Life.

“We are honored to be working with Disney on this unique exhibit for children and families that will encompass important learning areas such as social and self-development,” said Deborah Spiegelman, CEO/Executive Director for Miami Children’s Museum.

“Helping kids learn to appreciate teamwork and recognize the attributes that contribute to being a strong leader is an important milestone in their development and we are delighted to be working with the Miami Children’s Museum on their exhibit featuring the characters and themes from our much loved Disney Junior series, ‘The Lion Guard.’ Giving families a chance to experience our stories beyond the screen is a vital part of what we do and an example of how we can work together in communities to make a lasting impact,” said Nancy Kanter, Executive Vice President, Content and Creative Strategy, Disney Channels Worldwide, and General Manager, Disney Junior Worldwide.

Marvel Launches Global #GrootDancebomb Challenge to Plant a Quarter Million Trees in Honor of Earth Month and Groot, The Galaxy’s Top Tree

Marvel Launches Global #GrootDancebomb Challenge to Plant a Quarter Million Trees in Honor of Earth Month and Groot, The Galaxy’s Top Tree

As tree-like creature Groot dances back into theatres in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2 on May 5, Marvel today announced the global #GrootDancebomb challenge. An intergalactic twist on the social photobomb phenomenon, the #GrootDancebomb challenge blends surprise and dance to spread Groot-will during Earth Month working with the Disney Conservation Fund to support forest restoration through The Nature Conservancy.

Disney Conservation Fund

Marvel gave YouTube super star Dominic “D-trix” Sandoval an early look at Groot and his new dancing toy line, and challenged him to create a Groot inspired dance move to surprise and delight unsuspecting fans – the #GrootDancebomb was born. D-trix choreographed the ultimate “Groot move” to pull off the prank, before bringing it to the unsuspecting streets of Los Angeles. Watch the results here.

Marvel is now calling for fans to support the #GrootDancebomb Earth Month challenge by busting out a signature Groot move at an expected moment, using a dancing Groot toy to surprise someone, or even just liking or sharing Marvel’s video starring D-trix.

From April 18-May 5, like or share this video on YouTube or Facebook or post your own using #GrootDancebomb on Instagram or Twitter, and help plant up to a quarter of a million trees! Marvel and the Disney Conservation Fund will direct a $1 donation to The Nature Conservancy to plant 1 tree for each action, for a minimum donation of $50,000 and a maximum of $250,000.

“Groot was one of the break-out characters from Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy, and has quickly become a fan favorite,” said Josh Silverman, Executive Vice President, Global Licensing, Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “As we launch the toy line for the new movie, we’re excited to share the #GrootDancebomb challenge combining a little bit of fun and a little bit of doing good— just like the Guardians themselves.”

Fans watching Marvel’s #GrootDancebomb video will also be treated to D-trix’s signature dance style interspersed with Easter egg Groot toy cameos from Funko, Jakks Pacific, Hasbro and KIDdesigns—all of which can be utilized as perfect props for the unsuspicious dance set-up. These along with other exciting Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2 merchandise are available now at major retailers and Disney Store and DisneyStore.com for fans of all ages to enjoy.

“I’ve been a Marvel fan my whole life, so working on the #GrootDancebomb challenge was a dream come true,” said D-trix. “I found inspiration in Groot’s personality and the fun dance moves featured in the toys. I’m excited to share the #GrootDancebomb challenge with fans around the world and hope to inspire others to join the movement.”

From Surreal Worlds to Super Heroes, Groundbreaking New Experiences Premiere During Blockbuster Summer of Fun at Disney Parks

Floating mountains grace the sky in the new world of Pandora at Animal Kingdom (Matt Stroshane, photographer)

Floating mountains grace the sky in the new world of Pandora at Animal Kingdom (Matt Stroshane, photographer)

Anchored by two amazing new experiences – one an alien planet where mountains float and Banshees fly, the other an epic adventure inviting a breathtaking drop into the world of Super Heroes – Disney parks on both coasts are poised to make summer 2017 a season like none other. It all begins May 27, with the debuts of Pandora – The World of Avatar at Walt Disney World Resort and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at the Disneyland Resort.

With a supporting cast of even more new events and great attractions at both resorts, there’s plenty of fun in the sun for Disney Parks guests in California and Florida.

“In the U.S. and around the world, Disney parks are making new magic for our guests,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “With an irreverent and rockin’ new attraction at Disneyland Resort and an entire never-before-seen world at Walt Disney World Resort opening this May, there are fantastic experiences in store for our guests. Starting this summer they will be able to step into the worlds of their favorite stories and characters like never before.”

Throughout the season, guests at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts will experience the kind of sensational adventures only Disney can create.

At Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, opening May 27: Pandora – The World of Avatar, an all-new land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, will transport guests to a mystical world of bioluminescent rainforests, floating mountains and soaring banshees. In collaboration with filmmaker James Cameron and Lightstorm Entertainment, Disney is bringing to life the fantasy world of Pandora, inspired by Cameron’s epic film AVATAR. Guests will fly above the jungles of Pandora while riding on a mountain banshee on the thrilling Avatar Flight of Passage. And they’ll board reed boats for Na’vi River Journey, a family-friendly excursion down a rainforest river to see the Na’vi Shaman of Songs.

(Artist Concept/Disneyland Resort)

At Disneyland Resort in California, opening May 27: Outrageous and irreverent characters from the “Guardians of the Galaxy” films, comics and animated series lead guests on a high-energy adventure in Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! at Disney California Adventure Park. The chaotic and hilarious adventure combines a breathtaking free-fall sensation with all-new visual and audio effects, plus the attraction’s “awesome mix tape” of music inspired by the films’ soundtracks. Guests will board a gantry lift for multiple, random ride experiences in a pulse-pounding rise and fall as they join Rocket, one of the most unusual heroes a guest will encounter, in a daring plan to free the captive Guardians from The Collector’s Fortress. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! is the cornerstone of the summertime celebration, Summer of Heroes, where guests will enjoy Super Hero encounters; an awesome dance-off featuring Star-Lord and Gamora; and, for a limited time, a challenging “Avengers Training Initiative” for young recruits.

The two, all-new experiences are just the beginning of the fun at Disney Parks on both coasts this summer:

 AT DISNEYLAND RESORT

As Disney California Adventure unveils the sensational new Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and Summer of Heroes, exciting experiences will be found all across the Disneyland Resort this summer. Specific dates for some will be announced soon.

  • Guests have a chance to be dazzled by the beloved and iconic “Main Street Electrical Parade,” with an extended run through Aug. 20.
  • The spectacular nighttime “Fantasmic!” show re-opens at Disneyland this summer, and the classic Disneyland Railroad and Rivers of America attractions return to delight park guests.
  • Also in Disneyland, Star Wars and Disney fans will step into out-of-this-galaxy adventures at Star Wars Launch Bay, meeting some Star Wars characters and getting an up-close look at replica props and models from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”
  • Across both parks, guests will meet characters familiar and new – from Moana and Chewbacca to the stars of Summer of Heroes, including Groot, Captain America and Spider-Man. Photos with Groot are sure to be a big hit as he makes his first appearance in a Disney park.
  • “Disney Junior Dance Party” debuts Friday, May 26, at Disney California Adventure, creating a fun concert experience where adults and kids can sing and dance along to the music. Popular Disney Junior characters from Disney Junior TV shows “Doc McStuffins,” “Sofia the First” and “The Lion Guard” will be joined by characters from the new series “Mickey and the Roadster Racers.”

AT WALT DISNEY WORLD RESORT

The stunning world of Pandora headlines a full lineup of new attractions at Walt Disney World Resort.  From theme parks to water parks to resorts to Disney Springs, there’s something new in every corner of this world.

  • A dazzling new after-dark show, Rivers of Light, treats Disney’s Animal Kingdom guests to a celebration of nature in an experience that features water, floats, projections, fire and light choreographed to an original musical score.
  • A new nighttime experience premieres at Disney’s Hollywood Studios May 26. A full orchestra will provide the soundtrack for a 40-minute visual journey into The Music of Pixar LIVE!
  • Additional movie replicas from Rogue One: A Star Wars Story welcome guests to Star Wars Launch Bay at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
  • A new family-friendly raft adventure, Miss Adventure Falls, recently debuted at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.
  • A May 12 opening is set for “Happily Ever After,” the most spectacular fireworks display in the history of the Magic Kingdom.
  • Disney Springs rocks out with more new, food and beverage locations to complete its transition from Downtown Disney.

All of these new experiences add up to a thrilling summer at Disney Parks, with blockbuster excitement awaiting guests at parks on both coasts.
