Okay so maybe I personally didn’t ride the Haunted Mansion with a ghost girlfriend, but Woody Harrelson (soon to be part of the Han Solo Star Wars Movie) recalled a time he rode the Haunted Mansion with the girl of his dreams only to discover she was a ghost!
Now as amazing as that sounds it is really part of the wonderfully, still enjoyable to watch 35th Anniversary Special of Disneyland. It was here the special opens to the cast of, the then hit series, Cheers discussing meeting Mickey Mouse, Goofy, Fireworks and more. This special is a wonderful piece of Disney history as it was full of great celebrities, many who we have had on our show over the years from John Ratzenberger, Charles Fleischer, Tony Danza, Will Smith, Jim Varney, The Muppets and many others. It was in fact directed by none other than John Landis.
Running at about 45 minutes once commercials are cut out, and airing on February 4, 1990, this great vintage special goes through the then 35 year old Disneyland and uncovers popular attractions, showcases C-3PO in the cutting edge Star Tours, a quick tour of the park, and fantastic musical guests. Although Tony Danza is the main host, Charles does control the special using his comedic skills to become a Jungle Cruise Skipper, a Main Street Balloon Vendor, a Haunted Mansion worker and more keeping the special just as light hearted and fun as you would expect from Disney.
So if you were too young to watch this one (I myself remember setting the VCR for it and watching it) or you remember it, watch it again and relive those days when Disney Television Specials were ACTUALLY something special!
