We’ve all been there… that agonizing last day in Walt Disney World.

Your bags are packed. You’ve had breakfast.  Maybe you’ve gone for a swim. But your flight isn’t until 3pm.  The last thing you want to do is wait around, but if you go take one last spin around, you’re risking missing the Magical Express pick up.  Of course, you risk it anyway and run to Downtown Disney, but you can’t relax and enjoy it because you need to keep checking the time.

On those days, most of us wonder why we can’t do a Magical Express pick up from someplace other than our hotel.

Disney might just have an answer for that.

Downtown Disney to get a Makeover

Downtown Disney to get a Makeover

Disney is spending the next month testing an additional Magical Express pick up system at the Pleasure Island parking lot near Raglan Road.  The option is only available to guests staying at one of the Port Orleans Resorts.  Guests will check their bags at the hotel Magical Express desk.  They then have the option of going out for a few hours.  They wouldn’t specifically need to go to Downtown Disney, as every Park and Hotel has direct and frequent service to Downtown. Of course, Downtown is your safest bet.  As usual, there is a specified pick-up time when you can board the Magical Express and claim your luggage.

If it works out, this will be a nice addition to Disney’s airport transportation service.  There is a question of when this service could begin if the testing proves successful.  Downtown Disney is in the beginning stages of construction as it begins its transformation into Disney Springs.  Construction isn’t due to be completed until 2016 and space is at a premium.  Much of the Disney Springs expansion will be moving into parking areas. During that time, some guests will be asked to park in other areas, with Disney shuttling them back and forth to Downtown.

Should Disney choose to make permanent a Downtown Magical Express pick-up station, it may not be enacted until construction is complete on the Disney Springs parking structure.

Whatever Disney has planned, this will surely improve guests’ stays in Walt Disney World, making that last day that much less stressful.
