Disney’s Animated Classic “Fantasia” Returns To Cinema Screens In Celebration Of Its 75Th Anniversary

Disney's Animated Classic "Fantasia" Returns To Cinema Screens In Celebration Of Its 75Th Anniversary

Disney’s Animated Classic “Fantasia” Returns To Cinema Screens In Celebration Of Its 75Th Anniversary

Walt Disney’s 75-year old, bold experiment blending animation and classical music resulted in the much honored animated classic “Fantasia,” which returns to theaters nationwide for a strictly limited engagement beginning Sunday, November 8.  Honored by the National Board of Review as one of its Top Ten Films of all time, and the American Film Institute on its list of Greatest American Films, “Fantasia” was also inducted into the National Film Registry by the National Film Preservation Board.  In addition to the original feature, the event screenings will include a never-before-seen introduction and performance with the Philadelphia Orchestra, led by Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin.  BY Experience will release the film with more than 1,400 screenings nationwide.  Tickets for the “Fantasia” 75th Anniversary theatrical screenings are available now at participating theater box offices and online at www.Fantasia75.com.

Released in 1940 in the middle of World War II, “Fantasia” was initially envisioned as a short film to reinvigorate the sagging popularity of Mickey Mouse, but as the budget for the short soared, Disney decided to turn it into a full blown feature.  The film consists of eight animated segments conducted by Leopold Stokowski, with the famed Philadelphia Orchestra performing seven of them.  The soundtrack was recorded in ‘Fantasound,’ a then-new sound reproduction system, making “Fantasia” the first commercial film shown in stereophonic sound.

“‘Fantasia’ was a groundbreaking film in so many ways, and we are thrilled to have it back on big screens in its original form for new generations of moviegoers to experience,” said Julie Borchard-Young, co-president of BY Experience.  “The film is just as bold and innovative today as it was 75 years ago, which is why so many of Hollywood’s leading animators and filmmakers have referenced ‘Fantasia’ as an influencer on their careers and the art of animation in general.”

Walt Disney’s vision matched with Leopold Stokowski’s genius, and that created an instant masterpiece: Fantasia,” said Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. “The legacy of this wonderful film and its music is an important part of The Philadelphia Orchestra’s past, its present, and its future. After 75 years it is still so relevant for today’s audiences.”

In the last year, BY Experience has theatrically re-released such iconic and award-winning films as John Hughes’ seminal teen feature “The Breakfast Club,” and the fully restored Oscar-winning musical “My Fair Lady.”  Their latest re-release, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s acclaimed musical “Oklahoma!” opens November 1.

Duracell® Powers Imaginations This Holiday Season with All New Star Wars Film “Battle for Christmas Morning”

Duracell, the official battery power of the all-new “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” toys, is powering imaginations everywhere this holiday season with the release of its new film, “Battle for Christmas Morning.” The spot features a 14-year old boy and his 9-year old sister entering a limitless world of creativity once Duracell Quantum batteries are inserted into their new lightsaber toys. The 60-second spot, which features appearances by original Star Wars characters, C-3PO and R2-D2, highlights the power and importance of imagination for the whole family.

“There is no greater imaginative play moment that spans generations than the release of a new Star Wars motion picture. This holiday season, families from across the globe will be powering up new toys from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” said Jeff Jarrett, marketing director, Duracell. “In a world where screens are becoming more prevalent, Duracell wants to help parents encourage creative play by providing the batteries to power those toys to last as long as their children’s imagination.”

As a promotional partner of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Duracell collaborated with many of the forces behind Star Wars, including Disney, Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and Skywalker Sound to create an authentic Star Wars experience and bring this action story to life. The Battle for Christmas Morning” received expert guidance from famed cinematographer, Daniel Mindel and was shot on an all-new anamorphic camera lens and aspect ratio – only used previously on the new Star Wars film. The spot was directed by Star Wars fan and director of “Night at the Museum” film series, Shawn Levy.

“This ad is a whole story within a finite number of seconds; a boy gets a lightsaber on Christmas morning, he pops in his Duracell batteries to power up his toy and suddenly, within the real world, is this injection of make believe and imagination,” said Shawn Levy, director. “It’s really about the transformation from the real into the fantastical and how these little batteries provide the juice for this whole imagined universe and adventure.”

In an effort to provide more children with the opportunity to power their imagination, Duracell is continuing its commitment to Toys for Tots with a 1 million battery donation this holiday season. Duracell is also encouraging parents everywhere to give Star Wars toys to Toys for Tots so that every child can experience the joy of imagination in the Star Wars world.
