Walt Disney Records’ Austin & Ally: Turn It Up Features New Songs From The Hit Disney Channel Series, With Tracks Performed By Stars Ross Lynch And Laura Marano

Austin & Ally: Turn It Up

Austin & Ally: Turn It Up

With the holidays coming, “Austin & Ally” fans have something tuneful to be thankful for. Walt Disney Records is set to release Austin & Ally: Turn It Up, a new collection of songs heard on the hit Disney Channel series.  Featuring 12 tracks performed by series’ stars Ross Lynch and Laura Marano, plus a bonus track from sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey (Season Five winners of Radio Disney’s “Next Big Thing”), the album arrives at stores and online retailers Dec. 17, 2013.

Now in the midst of Season Three, “Austin & Ally” continues to dominate the Disney Channel airwaves, ranking as year to date, the #1 series among Kids ages 6-14. The series follows the adventures of budding pop star Austin Moon (Ross Lynch), songwriter and Austin’s secret weapon Ally Dawson (Laura Marano), along with their two best friends, as they pursue their dreams of stardom and success.

Featuring one of the most talented casts on TV, “Austin & Ally” highlights music in each episode. Last year, Walt Disney Records’ debut collection of songs from the show hit #1 on iTunes Top Soundtracks chart, while the video for “Heard it on the Radio” posted nearly 16 million views on VEVO. That album featured lead vocals by Ross alone. Now Laura joins the party on “Austin & Ally: Turn It Up,” which is akin to a musical conversation between the stars.

Songs included on the new album are:

“Upside Down” – This instant pop classic captures that crazy feeling of love at the moment of inception, as well highlighting Ross’s maturing vocal skills.

“Me & You” – Laura eases into the comfort zone of a perfect relationship in this joyously upbeat track.

“Who U R” – Ross comes back on this harder rocking song about revealing the truth behind the surface. As he sings, “Don’t be scared to show me something real.”

“Superhero” – On this up-tempo rocker, Ross shows that you don’t need a cape and a mask to play the hero for that special someone.

“Parachute” – This heartrending ballad shows off Laura’s emotionally rich vocals, as she sings about finding someone who will never let you fall.

“What We’re About” – Ross belts out this super-upbeat celebration of life, in which coming in first isn’t as important as just being in the race.

“Chasin’ the Beat of My Heart” — Behind an old-school disco beat, Ross sings about time ticking down before he gets with his girl.

“Stuck on You” – A sweet and sensitive acoustic-favored track about how love really feels. Ross’ leads and harmonies make this a standout.

“Redial” – In this lighthearted track, Laura sings about keeping the phone lines open for one true friend who never puts you on hold.

“Steal Your Heart” – Ross proves there is such as thing as sweet larceny, in this upbeat masterwork of pure pop.

“Better Than This” – The acclaimed production team Rock Mafia wrote and produced this neo-disco track for Ross, who totally owns it as an anthem to living for this moment.

“I Think About You” – Ross Lynch can rock the ballads, too, as he shows in this tender look back on an unforgettable summer romance.

“Unstoppable” – This bonus track from sisters Chloe and Halle Bailey provides the perfect message on which to end the album: if we accept each other for who we are, then we are unstoppable.

“Austin & Ally” was created by Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (“Good Burger,” “Kenan & Kel,” Disney Channel’s “Sonny With A Chance” and “JONAS”), and executive-produced by Kopelow, Seifert and Rick Nyholm (“I’m in the Band,” “George Lopez”). The series stars musician/actor Ross Lynch (part of Hollywood Records’ pop/rock group R5) as Austin, Laura Marano (“Without a Trace,” “Back to You”) as Ally, Raini Rodriguez (Disney’s “Prom,” “I’m in the Band”) as Trish and Calum Worthy (“Psych,” “Good Luck Charlie”) as Dez.

Austin & Ally: Turn It Up will be available wherever music is sold on December 17, 2013. Pre-orders are now available at iTunes ( http://smarturl.it/aa1 ) and Amazon ( http://smarturl.it/aaAmazona3 ).  For more information on Walt Disney Records’ releases, please visit Disney.com/music, become a fan at Facebook.com/disneymusic or follow us at Twitter.com/disneymusic.

Disney Chairman and CEO Robert Iger Receives 2013 John Wooden Global Leadership Award

UCLA Anderson School of Management honored The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Robert Iger with the 2013 John Wooden Global Leadership Award at a gala celebration on Nov. 21, 2013, at The Beverly Hilton Hotel. The annual award recognizes an exceptional leader for his or her exemplary leadership style and service to the community. The John Wooden Global Leadership Award carries the namesake of UCLA’s legendary basketball coach, John Wooden, who was a renowned author and expert on leadership.

Film and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer with The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Robert A. Iger at the 2013 John Wooden Global Leadership Award dinner.

Iger was selected as this year’s award winner for his success in shaping Disney as an industry leader in offering creative content across new platforms and expanding the company’s presence in several emerging markets. Under his direction, the company has been recognized as one of ™America’s Most Admired Companies by Fortune magazine, one of the ™World’s Most Respected Companies by Barron’s and one of the ™Best Places to Launch a Career by Bloomberg Businessweek.

Focusing on creativity, innovative technology and global growth, Iger has led Disney to record performance and shareholder value. He’s also built on the company’s rich legacy of unforgettable storytelling with the successful acquisition of Pixar in 2006, Marvel in 2009 and, most recently, Lucasfilm and the incredible Star Wars franchise in 2012.

“One person can’t run a company as big as ours,” said Iger. “It’s run by a team of people, and value is created by a very large team of people.”

The evening began with UCLA Anderson Dean Judy Olian distinguishing Iger as a “visionary who has taken Disney from a traditional entertainment brand and positioning it brilliantly for the 21st century on screen and television, online and in the cloud. Bob Iger leads in the tradition of John Wooden, putting his Pyramid of Success into practice in all matters of Disney business and activity. He has led Disney through enormous transformation, while enhancing its status as one of the most beloved brands in the world.”

UCLA ANDERSON SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT JUDY OLIANIn her opening remarks, Dean Olian also lauded the virtues of Coach Wooden and highlighted Anderson’s efforts to convey his principles to the students as they prepare for the responsibility of leadership in a global economy. Fellowships are awarded annually to those students who embody Coach Wooden’s values that focus on ethics, team spirit, skill, hard work, service and loyalty. This year, the dean recognized Elliot Ling, (MBA ’14) and Jordanna Mora (FEMBA ’15), each of whom received $25,000 in financial support as they work toward the completion of their respective MBA degrees.

The evening culminated with a discussion between ABC News Correspondent Cecilia Vega and Iger. The Disney leader touched on topics ranging from the risks of success (arrogance, bureaucracy), some of his early career failures, his daily routine (waking up at 4:30 a.m.) and the importance of respecting Disney’s heritage and legacy while innovating and adapting to changing markets. Iger also talked about the value of integrity, betting on creative people and instilling a sense of optimism among your team.

“Coach Wooden was never a box score,” said Iger.  “He was not baskets, shots or rebounds – it was the team. He was just the coach.”

Diane Disney Miller Passes Away at 79 (1933-2013)

Walt Disney reading to a young Diane Disney and her sister.

Walt Disney reading to a young Diane Disney and her sister.

Yesterday we saw a flurry of posts informing us that Diane Disney Miller, Walt Disney’s daughter, had passed away. As us fans always try to carry on the legacy of Walt, she was an advocate of her father telling stories, and always open.

I had the pleasure of meeting Diane a few times and she was a pleasant person and always willing to talk about her father, one of my idols, the Disney company, and more.

Diane’s passing came from some injuries she obtained when she fell a few months ago. She was never able to fully overcome these injuries and now has passed on. She was 79 year old. Diane was the only surviving child from Walt and Lillian Disney. Her husband Ron Miller served as CEO of the Walt Disney Company early in his career.

Diane and her sister were the inspiration for Disneyland, Walt’s original park . As he sat on the bench watching his children play, he wanted to make a place where parents and children could come and play together. His daughters were also the inspiration for making the film Mary Poppins, in which he promised one day he would make their favorite books into a film.

Bob Iger, current president of the Walt Disney Company has issued a statement:

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Diane Disney Miller and our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time.  As the beloved daughter of Walt Disney and one of his inspirations for creating Disneyland, she holds a special place in the history of The Walt Disney Company and in the hearts of fans everywhere.  She will be remembered for her grace and generosity and tireless work to preserve her father’s legacy, and she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.  In her memory and honor, flags at the Disney Studio Lot in Burbank and at our theme parks will be flown at half-mast.”

Our hearts go out to the family, friends and those who have come to know this outstanding woman. It will be our job as fans to carry on the legacy of Diane, and that of her father Walt, she worked so very hard to maintain.

Alaska Airlines Debuts Disney-Themed Airplane in Seattle

Alaska Dean Potter Seattle supervisor with Alaska’s fifth Disney-themed plane.

The newest themed airplane in Alaska Airlines’ fleet flew into Seattle-Tacoma International Airport today, featuring one of America’s most beloved and rusty tow trucks.

Adorned with the familiar images of Disney-Pixar’s animated Cars characters Mater, Lightning McQueen, Guido and Luigi, the colorful Boeing 737-800 named “Adventure of Disneyland Resort” celebrates Alaska’s partnership with Walt Disney’s original theme park.

It is the fifth Disney-themed airplane born out of the successful partnership between Seattle-based Alaska Airlines and Disneyland Resort.

“Our Disney planes generate a lot of excitement among our passengers young and old wherever they fly,” said Jeff Butler, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of customer service-airports and cargo, and board member of Make-A-Wish Alaska andWashington. “I can’t think of a better way to celebrate our strong partnership than to launch this flying invitation to visit Disneyland Resort’s newest attraction and Mater’s home in Cars Land.”

At a special airport event, Mater himself made a satellite appearance from Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park, providing travelers with updates on the arrival of the plane as it neared Seattle. After the ceremony, the aircraft officially joined the Alaska fleet on a flight to Orange County, Calif., and will then fly throughout the carrier’s 65-city network.

“Adventure of Disneyland Resort is a great example of taking beloved, iconic Disney-Pixar characters and bringing them to life in new and unexpected ways,” said Sharon Siskie, Disney Destinations’ vice president of travel industry sales. “It’s been our great privilege to be part of this collaborative effort with Alaska Airlines, and we’re delighted that today’s inaugural flight will create some very powerful memories for special guests from Make-A-Wish.”

Joining passengers flying on Flight 500 were four Make-A-Wish children from Washington and Alaska, ages 3 to 7, and their families, who will spend the next several days at the Disneyland Resort. During their visit, they will be treated to special activities and enjoy overnight accommodations at Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel at the Resort.

“Since our inception, we’ve granted life-affirming wishes to more than 5,300 children in Alaska and Washington and it’s only because of the partnerships that we have with companies like Alaska Airlines and Disney,” said Barry McConnell, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington.

Since granting its first wish in 1986, Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington has granted 2,257 Disney wishes and sent 1,051 children and their families on wish trips via Alaska Airlines. Disney helps Make-A-Wish America® grant more than 5,000 wishes annually, making a trip to a Disney Park the most frequent wish requested by Make-A-Wish children.

Alaska Airlines has supported Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington since 1986 and provides air transportation for about 225 Wish kids and their families to travel each year. Alaska invites members of its Mileage Plan to donate frequent-flier miles to Make-A-Wish through the Charity Miles program. To donate miles, visit www.alaskaair.com and click on the “Mileage Plan” and “Charity Miles” links.

The Adventure of Disneyland Resort aircraft received its new livery at Aviation Technical Services in Everett, Wash. A team of specialists from Associated Painters Inc. accomplished the complicated painting process, including a sponge-type application to re-create Mater’s rust-colored finish.

Adventure of Disneyland Resort trivia:

  • A 34-member crew worked around the clock for 29 days at Associated Painters Inc. to paint the plane.
  • Painters painstakingly airbrushed the aircraft with 70 unique colors and applied more than 10,000 square feet of vinyl graphics to create the lifelike characters, including the headlights, tire rims and eyes.
  • More than 72,000 linear feet of masking tape was used during the painting of the Adventure of Disneyland Resort.
  • Mater’s rustic-looking muffler, which is located on the tail of the jet, will naturally change color over time due to the plane’s normal exhaust stains.
  • The 129-foot-long Boeing 737-800 has a wingspan of 117 feet and a cruising speed of 530 mph.
  • The plane accommodates 157 passengers and six crew members.

Travelers attending the Sea-Tac Airport event shared photos using #iflyAlaska and #Disneyland hashtags. High-resolution photos of the Adventure of the Disneyland Resort jet and gate celebration are available at http://bit.ly/9qVv . In addition, a time-lapse video of the aircraft in various stages of the painting process is posted on Alaska Airlines’www.youtube.com/alaskaairvids.

Alaska’s other Disney-themed planes are the “Spirit of Disneyland II,” launched in 2009; the “Spirit of Make-A-Wish,” which debuted in 2006; and “Magic of Disneyland,” which entered the fleet in 2005. Alaska’s first Disney plane, the “Spirit ofDisneyland I,” joined the fleet in 2002 and was repainted in 2009.
