“Disney’s Planes” Set to Take Off at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2013

Everyone knows that Oshkosh becomes the busiest airport in the world the week of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh (July 29-August 4), and that airplanes take off all the time … however, 2013 will be a first for some very special planes.

The summer release of “Disney’s Planes,” the animated comedy adventure from above the world of the popular 2006 film “Cars,” has the entire aviation community buzzing! Those attending AirVenture this year will have the opportunity to experience a Special Preview Screening at the Fly-In Theater on Friday night, August 2, one week before the movie opens in theaters nationwide. “Disney’s Planes” will touch all who see it and help them understand the thrill and excitement that flying offers.

Director and aviation enthusiast Klay Hall says, “‘Disney’s Planes’ is a great underdog story. It has a lot of heart and a message we can all use: If we can believe in ourselves, step out of our comfort zones and get past whatever fear that’s holding us back, we’d be surprised with the results. And that’s exactly what happens to Dusty in this movie. He’s a crop duster who’s never flown above 1,000 feet, but he dreams of being the fastest air racer in the world. He has a lot of obstacles to overcome and needs to dig pretty deep to find the courage to become more than he was built to be. We’re so happy to share the film with the passionate aviation community at AirVenture.”

Prior to the movie, Hall will be present at the screening to talk about the making of “Disney’s Planes,” sharing behind-the-scenes stories and secrets.

“The Fly-In Theater has become a signature event at AirVenture and Ford is delighted to host Dusty and the crew for a screening that no doubt will pack the house,” said Kevin Keling, North America Corporate Events Manager for Ford Motor Company, which each year sponsors the Fly-In Theater presentations.

The special preview screening is included with regular EAA AirVenture admission on Aug. 2. The Fly-In Theater is an outdoor facility with a five-story-high screen and full sound system that presents aviation and other action movies for AirVenture attendees during AirVenture. It is a favorite evening activity for all Oshkosh attendees, especially those from the adjacent Camp Scholler camping area.

Walk The World, a Three-Day Charity Walk at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, a First of its Kind

The very notion of what’s magical will take on new meaning in the world’s most famous resort destination this November. For the first time, the Walt Disney World Resort will be the backdrop to For A Cause, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that orchestrates multi-day charity walks in vacation destinations that uniquely allow participants to walk for the charity of their choice.

The Walk The World event, part of the A Walk Around The World – Fundraising Walking Event series (awalkaroundtheworld.org ), is a walk-only fundraiser limited to 50 participants and takes place November 14-18, 2013. Over the course of three days, walkers will hit the sidewalks and walkways of the Walt Disney World Resort, averaging more than 10 miles a day, following a suggested journey through the resort’s theme parks and other locations. The adventure will take them through resorts like Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, water parks like Disney’s Blizzard Beach, and several of the famed theme parks, including the Magic Kingdom, where walkers will experience all the sites and attractions along the way, at their leisure. In addition, everyone will have a chance to enjoy group meals, activities, shows, fireworks and some special surprises, according to Robert Webber , president of For A Cause.

“There are so many die-hard Walt Disney World fans that are going to love the idea of visiting their favorite theme park while walking to raise money for their favorite charity,” Webber says.

“In years past, A Walk Around The World participants have traveled to castles in Europe and trekked miles throughout historical destinations, but this is the first time they’ll be given a chance to visit Cinderella Castle and walk miles throughout a fantasy destination. It’s going to be some serious fun — the Walk will be both magical and meaningful. If your feet get a little tired, you can just hop on one of the enchanted rides and take a break!”

The registration fee for Walk The World is $350 per person and includes lodging at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, group meals, and group theme park tickets. Single participants will be paired with a roommate, although single rooms are available for an extra charge. Walkers must be 14+ years old to participate. There is a minimum fundraising requirement for the charity of the participant’s choice.

“As with all For A Cause events, Walk The World will put participants up in comfortable accommodations, offer excellent food, and an unforgettable experience — this time made possible by the extraordinary setting and fanfare at the world’s most famous theme park and resort,” Webber says.

National Park Foundation Receives Grant From Disney To Help 60,000 Students Explore America’s National Parks

In celebration of National Park Week, the National Park Foundation – the official charity of America’s national parks – today received a $500,000 grant from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund to help connect kids to nature through America’s national parks. Disney’s investment will go specifically to the National Park Foundation’s “Ticket to Ride” program, which helps students explore the outdoors by providing transportation to national parks around the country.

“Providing the means for America’s youth to experience all that our national park system has to offer is imperative,” said Neil Mulholland , president and CEO of the National Park Foundation. “Disney’s support has helped make it possible for us to engage thousands of young people in life changing park experiences, and ultimately inspiring the next generation of park enthusiasts.”

Now in its second year and with continued support from the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and Disney Friends for Change, “Ticket to Ride” provides financial resources for transportation, in-park educational programming, and meals that make national park field trips possible for schools across the country.  The grant from Disney will help more than 60,000 students to experience location-based learning in their local national parks this year.

For many students, the Ticket to Ride field trip will be their first visit to a national park.  Recognizing that once in the parks a world of experiential learning opens up, the National Park Foundation and the National Park Service are dedicated to providing this critical access to the parks. Through these field trips, young people discover their natural, cultural and historical heritage, participate in volunteer and service-learning activities, enjoy recreational opportunities and most importantly, begin a lifelong relationship with their national parks

In addition to the grant, Disney’s Friends for Change – a program that inspires kids and families to make a positive impact on their world by helping people and the planet – developed a public service announcement (PSA)  that will air on Disney Channel and Disney Online.  The spot encourages kids and families to explore the outdoors, whether at a local, state, or national park.  Disney Friends for Change also created an online action kit (disney.com/friends) that helps families plan a park visit in four easy steps and provides ideas on park activities ranging from hikes to wildlife exploration.

“The more kids are exposed to the great outdoors, the more they appreciate and understand the beauty and value of our natural resources, from our national parks to our own backyards,” said Leslie Goodman , senior vice president of Disney Corporate Citizenship. “Disney is proud to work in collaboration with National Park Foundation to make a park experience possible for tens of thousands of young people. We hope that these outdoor adventures inspire lifelong conservation values.”

Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort will kick off a Monstrous Summer by keeping three theme parks open for 24 hours nonstop on Memorial Day Weekend, the traditional start of the family travel season.

The Magic Kingdom Park in Florida and Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park in California will stay open from 6 a.m., May 24 to 6 a.m., May 25, 2013, local time* marking the beginning of a summer of fun inspired by the upcoming Disney•Pixar comedy adventure Monsters University.

The oversized fun of a 24-hour Disney park “All-Nighter” called for an equally epic announcement, and the huge sphere of Spaceship Earth was transformed from Disney Parks icon to Disney•Pixar “Eye-con,” becoming a 180-foot-tall, fully animated Mike Wazowski, the loveable green-bodied, one-eyed monster who joins best pal James P. Sullivan (“Sulley”) in the prequel to Monsters, Inc., this summer as college students with hopes of becoming Scarers.

Walt Disney World President George Kalogridis joined Mike to share the news of the first-ever, three-park All-Nighter.

“This summer, Disney Parks are bursting with a monstrous lineup of new thrills, shows and happenings,” said Kalogridis. “Guests can start Memorial Day Weekend with a 24-hour-marathon of memory-making as three Parks stay open all day and all night to celebrate the bi-coastal kick-off of a Monstrous Summer at Disney Parks.”

Mike and Sulley will take a break from collegiate life and their Scare studies at Monsters University to host the All-Nighter, dropping in to scare up some school spirit. Guests will scream and giggle with delight at the lineup of thrills and entertainment that promises to make this a day and night to be remembered for a lifetime.

In Florida, the Magic Kingdom will feature a Monsters University theme where Mike and Sulley will be the Grand Marshals of the “Celebrate a Dream Come True” day parade – complete with pomp and circumstance – and make appearances in Tomorrowland. Guests also will find extra entertainment throughout the day and night, including characters in their pajamas in Town Square during the late night and early morning, and late-night dance parties in and around the courtyard of Cinderella Castle .

In California, guests can party the night away at both parks with special entertainment, including a Monsters University “TLT Monstrous” Dance Club and Star Wars characters in Tomorrowland, and late-night Character Pajama Party in Mickey’s Toontown at Disneyland. The new Fantasy Faire Royal Theatre at Disneyland will become a Royal Dance Hall late at night with a live band and dancing, and guests of Disney California Adventure will find Monstrous photo opportunities with new Monsters University “Dorms” in Hollywood Land and a new Monsters University float leading the Pixar Play Parade.

All three parks will feature limited-edition specialty merchandise and food and beverage offerings plus other surprises throughout the entire day.

The All-Nighter is just the beginning of the fun. In California, vacationers at “The Happiest Place on Earth” will see how Disneyland Resort “Just Got Happier” with great new attractions such as the “Mickey and the Magical Map” stage show. It is also the first summer for guests to experience the new Fantasy Faire with Disney Princesses at Disneyland, and they continue to enjoy the exciting new offerings of Cars Land and Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure.

Walt Disney World Monstrous Summer includes new offerings and popular favorites in all four parks. This is the first summer for New Fantasyland, which has received rave reviews from guests since its December grand opening as the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history. Guests also will find new, engaging offerings for the entire family throughout the Walt Disney World Resort this summer such as an interactive “Pirates Adventure” game at Magic Kingdom, the newly re-imagined Test Track at Epcot, the new Disney Junior show, featuring Sofia The First and Doc McStuffins, as new additions at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, plus Wilderness Explorers at Disney’s Animal Kingdom that will bring families together in exciting new ways.

Random House Children’s Books has acquired 15-year-old actress, dancer, and singer Bella Thorne ‘s teen book series,  AUTUMN FALLS , it was announced today by Beverly Horowitz , Vice President, Publisher of the Delacorte Press Young Readers Group. Executive Editor Wendy Loggia will edit the books.

AUTUMN FALLS is the story of a 14-year-old girl whose high school life unexpectedly changes after an encounter with magic.

Delacorte Press will publish the first novel in the multiple book series in hardcover in the summer of  2014.   AUTUMN FALLS  is Thorne’s publishing debut, and she will co-write with Elise Allen . A multitalented teen star, Bella is best known for her lead role playing aspiring dancer ” Cece Jones ” on the hit Disney Channel original series Shake It Up, which is in its third season.

“I am very excited to be working with Random House and am so happy that AUTUMN FALLS will have a home there,” says Thorne. “This book, although mysterious and magical, is inspired by different aspects of my personal life, which I hold very near and dear to my heart. I wanted to write a book that teens could relate to, but with a little bit of magic. I am thrilled and hopeful that my audience will grow with me throughout the series.”

“We are so pleased that Bella will make her publishing debut with Random House Children’s Books,” says Horowitz. “Her authentic and passionate voice will captivate girl readers, who we know will relate to Bella and her characters.”

“Bella’s got fantastic energy and is a true original—her fans are going to love seeing her creative and cool vision come to life in  AUTUMN FALLS ,” says Loggia.

Loggia negotiated the book deal for Delacorte Press with Matthew Elblonk of DeFiore & Company representing Bella Thorne . Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

BELLA THORNE is the star of the hit Disney Channel original series Shake It Up and the Disney Channel Original Movie Frenemies. In addition to her starring roles with the Disney Channel, Thorne has had roles on other hit series such as HBO’s drama Big Love, NBC’s My Own Worst Enemy, Billy Baldwin ‘s Dirty, Sexy Money, and Cheryl Hines ‘s daughter on In the Motherhood. She followed up on her acting successes with her first solo single TTYLXOX which was included on the Shake It Up soundtrack selling over 400,000 singles to date and making it onto the Billboard 100 charts. Recently, Thorne was signed to Hollywood Records.

Today marks the 15th Anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The park originally opened in 1998 and was received fairly well overall. Like most parks it has grown over the years to hold its’ own.

I clearly remember all the hype for the park, and the many promos on TV during the Happy Easter Parade telecasts, as well as numerous TV Specials and promos. Most of all I recall being there. It was fun, full of energy and it had a great attraction called “Countdown To Extinction”, boy I miss that one, wait, never mind it’s called “Dinosaur” now to better market the attraction when the movie was released.

Animal Kingdom has proven to be a fun place to enjoy, from great attractions, the fun Everest and the quiet places just to enjoy nature, as long as we can stay away from Avatarland and go more Beastly Kingdom, I see another 15 fantastic years.

So to celebrate as we know many Disney fans are on the web, we thought we would do something different. While hanging out today enjoy listening to this 1998 Animal Kingdom Special that was on ABC to promote it’s new park. It is enjoyable to listen to while working by your desk, laptop or just for fun. (And remember if you like this we have many more in that Lifetime of Disney Player – right here on the homepage to right -> yes over there.)
