Hyper Hippo Productions – A New Family Friendly Online Source

Two of the leading creative and business minds behind Disney’s Club Penguin, the number one virtual world for children, have formed Hyper Hippo Productions, a new studio that promises to offer fun and imaginative children’s properties for a wide range of digital platforms.

With unique applications and compelling storytelling that reward good actions and values, the digital properties will reflect real world ideals, thus encouraging and enabling socially responsible behaviors virtually in order to generate impact on a local and global scale.

“We are dedicated to creating a fantastic studio that will not only radically change how the industry perceives digital entertainment, but one that will positively impact children’s lives for years to come,” said Audette.  “In addition, it is important for us to invest in our local community through initiatives that increase the technology footprint in Kelowna, and in the global community through social outreach programs. Universal Music Group & Disney Music Group Expand Agreement Globally

Disney Music Group

Disney Music Group

Universal Music Group (UMG), the world’s leading music company, and The Disney Music Group (DMG), which includes Hollywood Records, Walt Disney Records and Disney Music Publishing, have expanded their ongoing relationship through a new long-term global commercial and creative agreement, it was announced today by UMG Chairman & CEO Lucian Grainge and DMG Executive Vice President, Ken Bunt .

Covering both physical and digital rights nearly worldwide, the agreement will enable UMG and Disney to offer DMG’s unique and extremely popular music repertoire that includes all of the company’s labels’ frontline releases from a stable of multi-platinum pop, rock and country albums. The Disney roster has continued to expand with such chart-topping and critically-acclaimed artists as Demi Lovato , Plain White T’s, Selena Gomez , ZZ Ward, Queen, Bridgit Mendler , Grace Potter & The Nocturnals and more.  The agreement also covers the full Disney catalog of music from over 85 years, including all-time favorite soundtracks like “Aladdin,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Lion King,” “The Little Mermaid,” “Winnie The Pooh,” “Cinderella,” “Tarzan,” “The Jungle Book,”  “Toy Story,”  ” Mary Poppins ,” and “The Mickey Mouse Club,” as well as the opportunity to work together on music to new releases from Disney, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, Marvel Studios and Disney|Lucasfilm.

For the first time, this new agreement provides for close creative collaboration between the two companies as DMG’s labels and artists will now have access to UMG’s roster of multiplatinum and Grammy Award-winning producers and songwriters on a worldwide basis.

“We are delighted to take our successful and long-standing relationship with Disney to the next level,” stated Mr. Grainge.  “Providing access to our creative resources on a global scale, this new agreement takes our relationship with Disney beyond simply the commercial and fosters collaboration on a musical level.”

“Universal Music Group has been a valuable and trusted collaborator of the Disney Music Group for over 18 years,” stated Mr. Bunt. “And we are excited to expand our association to bring greater collaboration and strategic planning to our collective businesses.”

Why Animation? by: D-Team Member Lexie

By: D-Team Member Lexie

Someone once told me that if you have a single favorite song, then you haven’t listened to enough music. I think the same goes for Disney films! Yet, when I think of my favorite Disney movies, I always come back to an animated one. Classics like Cinderella, 101 Dalmatians and the Jungle Book never stray far from the top of the list. I just can’t get enough of Disney’s animation style. On the other hand, I love any vintage live action film as well, like Mary Poppins and the Absent Minded Professor. So, I tend to come across a dilemma that I’m sure most D-Heads can relate to, how do you pick a small handful of favorites? Sometimes it’s tough to love Disney so much! Only kidding, I wouldn’t change Disney for the world!

Our Favorite Good Deed Man Jiminy Cricket

Our Favorite Good Deed Man Jiminy Cricket

Now, why is it that I lean towards classic animation? What is it that these films have over the other animated features? Well, for me, the mid 20th century animation has that little extra touch of Magic. I know that’s a big statement! Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely adore today’s Disney generation. Minds like Alan Menken and Brad Bird are one in a million and the new technology developments are magical in their own right. I cherish beauties like the Little Mermaid and the Lion King and I look forward to being swept away by the future animated features, but there is just a certain X factor that defines classic Disney animation.

Perhaps it is the atmosphere of the mid 40s through to the 1960s that captivates me. When I think of the Nine Old Men that are accredited with creating some of the studio’s most memorable moments, I think of excitement and adventure. These men were at the forefront of entertainment, taking story telling to new places. I can only imagine what it must have been like to be in the room when Walt was describing story boards and bringing experimental characters to life. Just think, the Jiminy Cricket that we all respect had his origins in a small Burbank studio, with one man and his storytelling team.  It was the inclusive teamwork, lead by Walt and Ward Kimball that transformed from a mere Italian Talking Cricket to a heartwarming friend. The process of film making in any element or genre is fascinating, but Disney’s process was and still is breathtaking.

Who Could Forget These Antics and the Song "FLUBBER"

Who Could Forget These Antics and the Song “FLUBBER”

A Modern Classic in The Little Mermaid

A Modern Classic in The Little Mermaid

The humble origins of Disney’s classic animation make the final product, something incredible and timeless, but only a final product nonetheless.  Maybe it is the glamorous nature of the classic era, or my rose colored (Mickey shaped) glasses, but for me it cant get any better than the nine old men, a crew of trained specialists and Disney’s Sweat Box. Magic is made with passion, determination and a spirit of adventure.  As Walt once said “the real trouble with the World is that too many people grow up”. So, I like to think that it is with the classic animated features that Walt tried to help the world dream that bit harder. Every second of animation is full of passion and has the capacity to take us to far off lands.  Thank goodness for Disney.

What’s my current animation highlight? It would have to be Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother ball gown scene. The simple beauty is enchanting and awe-inspiring. It doesn’t get better than that. Interestingly, I also read that it was Walt’s all-time most treasured scene! You know it has to be special! So, if we just suspend our disbelief for a moment, Disney really encourage us believe that dreams can come true. After all, Walt’s dreams have come true and more! Classic animation is priceless and nothing short of magical.

IMAX And Disney Pact On New IMAX 3D Space Film

IMAX Corporation and The Walt Disney Studios, a division of The Walt Disney Company, today announced an agreement to produce and distribute the latest IMAX® 3D cinematic space spectacle from acclaimed filmmaker Toni Myers , who has been crafting mind-blowing movie experiences for IMAX audiences for more than 40 years.

IMAX Corp.

IMAX Corp.

This marks the first time IMAX and The Walt Disney Studios are jointly producing a film together. The companies have previously collaborated on the distribution of numerous films from the groundbreaking release of Fantasia 2000 to the recent successful opening of Oz The Great and Powerful.

Myers’ upcoming 3D film, which is still untitled, will use IMAX’s extremely high-resolution photography and videography to offer breathtaking, illuminating views of our home planet from space, exploring the astonishing changes that have occurred on Earth in just the past several decades.

Made in cooperation with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the film will explore mankind’s future on – and off – the planet, increasing our understanding of the solar system, while also traveling light-years to other star systems to ponder the possibilities of “Goldilocks,” an Earth-like planet. The film is expected to be released in 2015.

“Disney has always been a leader in creating immersive fantasy worlds for audiences, but we know there’s no more immersive world than the real one,” said Alan Bergman , President, The Walt Disney Studios. “This is a bird’s eye view of our incredible universe and our future in it, and we’re looking forward to diving in with the perfect collaborators, Toni Myers and IMAX.”

“We’re thrilled to collaborate on our first joint production with Disney,” said Greg Foster , Chairman and President of IMAX Entertainment. ” Toni Myers and her team have given us films that have been educating, delighting and astonishing IMAX audiences for many years, and we look forward to continuing the journey with this latest spectacle.”

Myers has been editing, writing, producing and directing films specifically tailored for The IMAX Experience® since 1971. Her most recent documentary feature film, 2010’s acclaimed Hubble 3D, has grossed nearly $53 million in IMAX® theaters to date.

“The 1990 IMAX film Blue Planet was the first time we pointed the IMAX® cameras from space back to Earth to reveal, on a grand scale, the changes being made to our planet by both natural and human forces,” Myers said. “It’s marvelous and important to have this new opportunity to show what has happened to our planet since then. The International Space Station is a unique and perfect platform from which to see how our home is evolving, and at the same time explore our exciting future in other worlds.”
