Toys”R”Us® will soon introduce an assortment of toys from Fisher-Price® based on the underwater world of  Octonauts™, which will splash into its stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com beginning in March. The World’s Greatest Toy Store® will be the first retailer in the U.S. to offer eager aquatic explorers the opportunity to take an exciting undersea voyage with the preschool line of action figures, playsets and vehicles based on the hit show, which airs daily on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

The increasingly popular series, Octonauts, inspired by the beloved children’s books of the same name, follows the whimsical underwater adventures of brave Captain Barnacles Bear, swash-buckling Lieutenant Kwazii Cat and their expert medic, Peso Penguin, as the group sets out to explore the world’s oceans, rescue the creatures who live there and protect their habitats – above and below the waves. 10 Characters Disney MUST Include in Infinity

Recently Disney announced their new video game flagship (mercifully replacing the terrible Epic Mickey) Disney Infinity.

Infinity will be identical in set-up (though not in execution) to the popular Skylanders game. Basically the system starts with a base platform that you plugs into a gaming system.  Little toy figurines resembling characters from the Disney stable are sold which you place on top of the base. Each figure has a computer chip which allows gamers to play that character.  The chip also saves the player’s game onto itself.

So far Disney has primarily announced 3 sets of characters that will be part of the game.  Pirates of the Caribbean, The Incredibles and Monsters Inc.  The initial release will include many of the characters from these franchises and their respective universes. This means you can play Capt Jack Sparrow fighting Syndrome in The Incredibles.  The possibilities should excite every true Disney fan.

Most recently Disney announced that Cars would be the 4th wave of Infinity characters.  Other expected announcements include Phineas and Ferb, Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story and Wreck-it-Ralph.

Playing Agent P or Dr Doofenschmirtz will be absolutely fantastic, but what about classic Disney characters?  It seems strange that all of the Infinity announcements have revolved around characters created in the last 10 years.

The following is a list of 10 older Disney characters that need to be included in future Infinity packs.  This is excepting obvious ones like Donald and Goofy.  It would also be interesting to see these universes at play.

1. Kit Cloudkicker

There was a time when Disney’s most famous pirate characters didn’t spend all day chasing rum.  Disney’s Talespin was a tale of sky pirates starring Baloo and other Jungle Book characters.  Kit was Baloo’s sidekick and essentially adopted sun who would hang from Baloo’s plane and go sky surfing on his board.

2. Gizmoduck

The Duck Tales universe is filled with fun characters, but Gizmo Duck was their very first superhero!  Disney’s answer to Iron Man is one of the most sadly under-used characters in their roster.

3. Gadget

The Heart and Soul of the Rescue Rangers could come loaded with… well, gadgets to fight villains.

4. Robin Hood

It’s Robin Hood.  Self-explanatory.

5. Prince Charming

It seems like Disney would have included this guy in something by now.

6. Arthur

King Arthur, before he was king. Sword in the Stone is rife with possibilities for game play.

USA Student Travel in partnership with the Disneyland Resort recently hosted motivational youth speaker Scott Greenberg to present an inspirational presentation and leadership-training workshop at the Disneyland Resort Youth Leadership Program on February 1, 2013. The two-hour program was presented twice to over 600 student leaders in each session held at the Disneyland Hotel Convention Center. Students traveled from middle schools and high schools all over California and Nevada.

Greenberg began with a motivational keynote address followed by a number of team-building activities that allowed participants to meet students from other schools. They were also separated into mixed groups to exchange ideas on student activities, fundraising and student involvement.

“This program is a fantastic way for student leaders to expand their skills,” says Greenberg, a former student council leader himself. “By spending time with like-minded students, they can network and learn about what others student councils are doing to improve their schools.”

Greenberg closed with his motivational program entitled “Cut Loose Your Sandbags: How to Overcome Mental Hang-ups & Soar to Success.” The session focused on helping students understand the most common mental blocks that limit their ability to lead, and limit other students’ ability to participate in school. The program ended with the teen leaders making public declarations of what they intend to do to lead more effectively.

In addition to attending Greenberg’s programs, students were also treated to lunch, a dance competition and time at the Disney parks.

Zimmerman Advertising’s ‘Z Super Poll’ Finds Disney’s ‘Lone Ranger’ The Most Effective Ad of the 2013 Super Bowl

Zimmerman Advertising dons Disney’s Lone Ranger Most Effective Ad at Super Bowl

The Ravens may have won the game, but it was the movies that scored the biggest in Zimmerman Advertising’s first-ever Z Super Poll. Disney’s Lone Ranger and Oz, The Great and Powerful, along with Universal’s The Fast the Furious 6 all had the greatest change in purchase intent, while brands such as Samsung, Calvin Klein and GoDaddy.com were sidelined by ineffective advertising.

The findings are all a part of Omnicom-owned Zimmerman Advertising’s inaugural ‘Z Super Poll.’  Conceptualized by zQ, the research division at Zimmerman, to go head to head with likeability-driven polls, this unique, business-driven survey put aside who delivered the funniest ad, or most creative ad to focus on one thing: effectiveness. More than any other metric, it measured only what counts: Having seen this ad, will you try this brand (product or service).

Here’s what the Z Super Poll found:

  • Let’s all go to the movies! The studios, especially Disney win big!
    • Overall purchase intent winners include Lone Ranger (+19%) and Fast & Furious 6 (+15%).
    • Women love Oz (+15%) and men love Fast and Furious.
  • There’s beer, there’s soda…and then there’s MILK!
    • Aside from movies, Milk was a big winner at +11%.
  • Millenials eat up Blackberry.
    • In the smartphone war, 18-34 year olds responded big time to Blackberry (+13%), but bailed on Samsung (-17%).
  • Intent Trumps Opinion.
    • Consider the case of Budweiser. They used two 30 second spots to highlight their new Black Crown brew. “Here’s to taste!” they touted. And because this blue-collar brand has suddenly introduced an upscale product, viewers of the game had a high opinion of Budweiser Black Crown (+8%). But at the same time, men were less likely to go buy some after seeing these ads (-6%), while women were ready to give it a try (+8%).

“Sophomoric humor is fine for entertainment purposes, but not for selling products,” said Cliff Country, EVP Chief Strategy Officer, Founder of zQ. “The Super Bowl has grown to a cultural phenomenon that transcends guys on a couch farting and watching football.  There’s a reason that Madonna and Beyonce have been the last two halftime performers, not Jimmy Buffet or even Jay-Z.”

Using a robust sample and sophisticated list, three days before The Big Game, zQ captured baseline perceptions of every brand expected to advertise (including likeability, purchase history, purchase intention, relevance, etc.)  The same survey was sent just after the game to determine which ads actually caused a shift in perception, resulting in a greater propensity to actually buy the product or service.

“There are plenty of experts out there willing to wax philosophical about beautiful, shocking or irreverent Super Bowl ads and their place in pop culture,” said Jordan Zimmerman , Founder and Chairman of Zimmerman Advertising. “But, at Zimmerman, we’re only interested in one thing: results.  We want to know which ads will stick in a consumer’s mind and translate into actual sales – because in the end, advertising isn’t about creativity or notoriety, it’s about the client’s bottom line.”

Of course it wasn’t all good news for advertisers. The Z Super Poll also showed:

  • Silly ads going down.
    • Frat humor and slapstick less important than ever?  Consider Doritos (-8%), M&Ms (-8%), Sketcher (-6%) and Pistachios (-7%).  They’re all brands that chose gags or sophomoric-based humor, all undermining their potential to sell more product.
  • Oops…three brands where the purchase intent dropped the most:
    • Samsung (-15%)
    • Calvin Klein (-13%)
    • Oreo (-10%)

“Celebrities and models create sizzle and make commercials entertaining. We know that,” said Scott Becher , EVP Managing Director, Sports & Entertainment at Zimmerman Advertising. “But, unless the celebrity involvement is authentic to the brand, sales rarely jump. We know Super Bowl ads are fun to watch. Very few also move the needle.”

“The proof is in the numbers,” added Zimmerman. “And the numbers never lie. Perhaps some of these brands will reassess their efforts when it comes time to make that big Super Bowl buy next year.”

This 36 year-old former investment banker – better known as “Disneyhispana” on the Internet message boards – has been in love with the Disney theme parks ever since his first visit to Orlando back in the eighties.

Growing up, the Author of this pioneering guide to Walt Disney World in Spanish was fascinated by how Walt had essentially invented the theme park industry and prevailed against all odds by focusing on customer service and attention to detail. A self-confessed Disney parks junkie, the guide’s Author was amazed at how much more enjoyable a vacation experience could be if you actively participated in these online communities and engaged with other like-minded fans. That’s when he realized that non-English speakers were really missing out on much of the fun, spending huge sums of hard-earned cash on their Disney vacations and not knowing half of what was going on.

According to a report by the Themed Entertainment Association, the Walt Disney World theme parks in Orlando attracted over 47 million guests during 2011. Data from the Florida Board of Tourism suggests that a significant proportion of these visitors are native Spanish-speakers. In 2011, for example, it is estimated that over 380,000 tourists from Mexico visited Orlando, close to 375,000 from Argentina, over 360,000 from Venezuela… Although “The House of Mouse” does not release official attendance figures by nationality, it can be assumed that a significant proportion of these Latin American tourists that visit Orlando spend at least a couple of days at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Oscar was amazed that there was essentially no unofficial online community or guidebook catering to the needs of these Spanish and Latin American Disney theme park fans in their own language, so in 2007 he decided to build it himself.

Centered on the unassuming http://disneyhispana.blogspot.com blog, where he has written close to 1,000 informative articles and vacation planning tips, Oscar single-handedly created an unofficial Disney theme park community with close to 40,000 active members.
