A New Place to Meet the Disney Princesses! Fantasy Faire Makes Regal Debut at Disneyland Park March 12

For many guests at Disneyland Park, the encounter with a Disney Princess and her story is an essential part of any visit. Beginning March 12, 2013, Disney Princesses will await these guests at the new Fantasy Faire, a storybook world that extends Fantasyland and brings its timeless tales to life in fun and surprising ways.

Fantasy Faire creates an enchanting, immersive environment for guests who treasure magical fairy tales.

Designed in the charming, old world style familiar to lovers of Fantasyland, this regal village fair is located on the west side of the “Hub” or Central Plaza, expanding  Fantasyland beyond its current boundaries and into a location (the former Carnation Plaza Gardens) near the forecourt of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Visitors will walk a beautiful pathway leading into the corridors of the Royal Hall, where Princesses await them. Along the way, they will encounter  whimsical design touches, including Geppetto’s cat Figaro dozing (and occasionally waking) on a window sill, and “Clopin’s Music Box,” a fascinating, interactive mechanical toy representing the Feast of Fools from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Guests may also explore a charming village square highlighted by Tangled Tower, a magical sculpture inspired by the story of Rapunzel. After dark, Rapunzel’s hair, twisting around the tower sculpture, comes to life with twinkling lights.

A highlight of the Fantasy Faire experience is the Royal Theatre, where guests will be treated to two different shows: the tales of Rapunzel (“Tangled”) and Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”) as presented by Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, a pair of vaudeville-style Renaissance storytellers. The princess heroine, Rapunzel or Belle, will join in the fun and remain with the audience to greet guests following the conclusion of the story.

Fairytale Treasures, a shop found inside Fantasy Faire, offers all kinds of Princess dresses, accessories and gifts. For guest refreshment, Maurice, Belle’s inventor father, has transformed an old gypsy wagon into a colorful food cart, Maurice’s Treats, serving bread twists – cheddar cheese garlic and strawberry almond cream flavors – along with a signature beverage, the Boysen Apple Freeze.

The addition of Fantasy Faire will be one of the highlights of the guest experience for Spring-Summer 2013 at the Disneyland Resort. Also coming to Disneyland in time for summer is “Mickey and the Magical Map,” a new, live show presented in the Fantasyland Theatre.  And at Disney California Adventure Park, new characters Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins join the show “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” beginning March 22.

New ‘Mickey and the Magical Map’
“Mickey and the Magical Map” presents Mickey Mouse in his timeless role as the sorcerer’s apprentice. Sorcerer Yen Sid sets his Mapmakers to work and this ensemble cast of male and female performers paints a wondrous map – capable of taking dreamers to any place imaginable and so large it spans the entire stage of Fantasyland Theatre.

Apprentice Mickey lets his curiosity get the better of him and stumbles upon the map’s magical powers. Mickey’s youthful mischief takes him, along with the audience, on a fantastic journey of imagination in the company of the Mapmakers, who help bring his adventures to life.

The journey, presented through amazing theatrical wizardry, colorful visuals and wonderful music, includes encounters with such classic Disney characters as Pocahontas, Mulan, King Louie from “The Jungle Book,” Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” and others. “Mickey and the Magical Map” is designed for Disneyland guests of all ages and represents Disney storytelling at its most thrilling.

Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins Join ‘Disney Junior – Live on Stage!’
Fans of the Disney Junior television hits “Sofia the First” and “Doc McStuffins” will enjoy interacting with these characters at “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!”  They join the gang from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” in a show that invites preschoolers to sing, dance and play with enchanting puppets, fanciful scenery and lively music.

Sofia the First, Disney’s first little girl princess, and other characters in the show share ideas with guests, encouraging them to become part of the stories. Sofia is known for showing every little princess-in-training how to sparkle – inside and out.  Doc McStuffins cares for and nurtures toys in need. When the Doc is in, she really knows her stuff, consulting her Big Book of Boo Boos to help diagnose and mend her toy friends.

“Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” is presented several times a day at Disney California Adventure Park.

Fantasy Faire, “Mickey and the Magical Map” and the new stories at “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” add to the excitement at the Disneyland Resort, a world-class, family vacation destination where guests continue to enjoy Cars Land and Buena Vista Street at the newly expanded Disney California Adventure.

MMC, Felicity, and The Americans Star Keri Russell says ‘She Would Love to Be in Star Wars Episode VII’

Keri Russell Would Love to be in the Next Star Wars

Keri Russell Would Love to be in the Next Star Wars

With all the hype of Disney buying Star Wars and even more so, the newest film in the horizon and then even more, the announcement that J.J. Abrams has been awarded the Director role of Episode VII, actors and actresses have been announcing how much they would love to be part of this franchise and next series of films. From original cast, to people we never expected to hear from. Well it happened again.

Keri Russell from the All-New Mickey Mouse Club, Felicity and recently the new hit show The Americans, has announced that she would love to be involved in any way in the film and would take on any role J.J. would award her.

“I would do anything for J.J. I would do crafts services if he asked!”

And from the rumor mill you can expect J.J. may want to use her since he likes to use people he has worked with in the past. And as her past director and boss in Felicity and in MI:III, you may just see her in the film.

So all you fans of the All-New MMC and Felicity can just wait and see, and Keri is waiting for that call as well. You can keep up to date on the topic with the guys over at TV Line who have even started a campaign to get her a role.

Disney and Google Chrome Unleash ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’-Themed Interactive Web Experience

Many of us enjoy our web browsing experience and while we are all making sure all are ready for the big roll out for the ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ spot during the Super Bowl, Disney has unleashed their “FIND YOUR WAY TO OZ” Google in-browser experience that, best of all, uses no plug-ins in this new Google Chrome Experience.

What makes this so fun is it explores and enhances the hype for Oz hitting the theaters but also it utilizes the first of its kind WebGL to create a full interactive, fun environment in the third dimension. And this entire process uses no help from Flash or Quicktime making it fully functional and fun for your iPad, iPhone and more as well as for speedy loading on your desktop or laptop.

During this new experience you can play through a few scenes from ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’, capture video, and mix it into the entire experience even allowing you to save and send files from within the browser itself!

The Google Chrome ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ debuts to the public next week on Tuesday, February 5th.

Spring time Events at Walt Disney World

By: D-Team Member Michele

A Beautiful Flower Mickey at Epcot

A Beautiful Flower Mickey at Epcot

It’s that time of year, when the snow is barreling down and driveways and appendages are frozen from the cold. It’s about this time of year that many families (especially in the cold states!) start dreaming of a spring break vacation at Walt Disney World.

If you have the flexibility to travel during non-traditional spring break times (for example, take the kids out of school for a few days) you will greatly benefit from the lower crowds.

Aside from running away from the cold, Walt Disney World has a lot to offer in the spring season. Here are two of my favorite things that you can look forward to while you’re thawing out:

  • Flower and Garden Festival: Epcot will host the International Flower and Garden Festival from March 6, 2013 to May 19, 2013. This special event is free with park admission and includes immaculate larger than life topiaries featuring our favorite Disney characters. There are topiaries all around the park, special event merchandise, special presentations by HGTV celebrities and seminars on a range of gardening techniques and tips. The Flower Power Concert Series brings a new band in each weekend from the 60’s and 70’s for live music. New for 2013 will be Oz the Great and Powerful themed gardens and children’s play areas.
  • Star Wars WeekendsIn a galaxy far, far away…Well, you may not be that far from home, but Disney does a GREAT job of making you feel like you are in a different galaxy. These themed weekends are hosted at Disney’s Hollywood Studios from Friday to Sunday, May 17 – June 9, 2013. This special event is included in your park admission and offers unique special experiences all weekend long. Hosted by celebrity guests James Arnold Taylor and Ashley Eckstein each weekend will feature different Star Wars celebrities, autograph opportunities, special parades, character meet and greets and the famous “Hyperspace Hooplah” which is THE best time in any galaxy, guaranteed.

Lords of War on the National Geographic Channel

Lords of War on the National Geographic Channel

Phil Sears, the avid seller of Disney collectibles will be appearing in a segment of the National Geographic Channel’s Antique Militaria collecting show “LORDS OF WAR” tonight!

He is being asked by Sean Rich (formerly of “PAWN STARS”) to give an expert opinion on a WWI helmet with artwork purported to be that of Walt Disney.

As you may know, the young Walt Disney made extra money while serving as an ambulance driver in WWI by enhancing German helmets with insignia and rare paint jobs.

The show airs tonight, Wednesday, January 30th at 9pm and 11pm EST. Two different episodes air tonight night– it’s the one with “WWI helmet” in the description.

Should Disney Provide Transportation to Universal?

By: D-Team Member Adam

When it comes to Orlando vacations, there are two types of people: Disney fans and Universal fans. At least in theory.

And really, this rivalry is just as spirited as Republican and Democrat, Coke and Pepsi or Tastes Great and Less Filling.

The reality is that Disney and Universal offer two distinct, uniquely entertaining vacation experiences.  For those of us who enjoy them both, the lack of proximity represents a problem. How do you plan your vacation around these two resorts? Do you drive or rent a car? Feasible, but kind of a pain. Do you choose one over the other?  Well I love Universal, but it’s not really enough for a whole vacation. Disney is enough for 3 weeks worth of vacation if you have the budget, but sometimes you want to try a little something different. Additionally, choosing to alternate between resorts is far more bothersome to families who can only afford one vacation a year.

Disney Transportation (phot credit everythingwdisneyworld.com)

Disney Transportation (phot credit everythingwdisneyworld.com)

For years now, Disney’s central goal has been to keep guests on property.  From the moment you step off the plane, Disney wants you to eat, sleep and breathe the Mouse.  In many respects, this is both their best and worst feature.  There is plenty of wonder to explore outside Disney.  Many guests know this and want more.  By denying them the opportunity, Disney forces some guests to make hard choices.  In the past, the choice was easier.  Universal has some world class rides such as The Mummy, Amazing Spider-man & Dueling Dragons.

However, since the opening of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Studios has seen record crowds.  Surely some of these people are choosing to stay at Hogwarts over Cinderella Castle.  This number is bound to increase with the Harry Potter London Expansion (which is technically still just a rumor) and the Transformers 3D ride.

Currently, the only way to travel from Disney to Universal is to drive yourself or take multiple city buses from the Ticket and Transportation Center. The buses are cheap, but extremely inconvenient.  Renting a car or driving is even more inconvenient if you’re only looking to do one or two days at Universal.

Should Disney examine ways to provide direct transportation to and from Universal?  Perhaps a series of buses that charge $10 each way would be feasible?

The downside (theoretically) is that by making a trip to another park easier, Disney would be losing money we should be spending at their parks.  Or course if a guest is really determined to go off-property, they’ll find a way.

Universal Orlando's Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Universal Orlando’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter

However, by giving guests the option, Disney stands the possibility of stealing some hotel guests from the Universal area. There’s also the possibility that some of their guests might spend a day in Epcot.  It’s unlikely either Resort will lose a significant amount of money.

Disney and Universal aren’t going to make nice any time soon, but both can benefit from allowing guests to travel easily between their resorts.  Hardcore fans of these properties aren’t going anywhere. But for the rest of us, it would be one less problem to consider when planning vacations.

Thoughts?

The Wizards of Waverly Place: The Wizards Return First Look Trailer

We reported via our Offical Twitter @DisneyBlu that Wizards of Waverly Place is returning for a Special Movie this March.

We know many fans of the show, and of Selena as Alex, wanted the show to come back. This will be a movie special. So far the tale tells us that since Alex had won the competition she has been using her magic not for good, but for herself. She has decided to remove all the things people don’t like about about her avoiding all warnings from her father about the consequences of using ‘magic’ the wrong way.

The end result, shown in the teaser trailer below, tells us that playing with magic makes two versions of Alex. A good Alex now must take on an evil Alex. Whatever the result, you can expect a Disney Channel movie full of fun.

So get ready this march for The Wizards of Waverly Place: The Wizards Return

Boy Meets World Spinoff ‘Girl Meets World’ Cast Cory and Topanga’s Daughter

As we have announced here at DizRadio.com over the last few months, a Boy Meets World spinoff show called ‘Girl Meets World’ has been in development for some time now with the original Cory and Topanga (Ben Savage and Danielle Fishel) on board.

The hype has been outstanding on this and everyone is all about it. Well it seems that according to Entertainment Weekly (EW), they have learned that Rowan Blanchard with play the title role and daughter or Cory and Topanga.

Rowan Blanchard Picks Up Title Role as Riley Matthews (photo credit: entertainment weekly)

Rowan Blanchard Picks Up Title Role as Riley Matthews (photo credit: entertainment weekly)

This 11 year old actress hails from the L.A. area and has a resume from such films as the Spy Kids franchise. She will play the role of Riley in the series that will debut on the Disney Channel tentatively. The search narrowed it down to her and let us say, she fits the bill. She has Cory’s dark hair and personable flair and Topanga’s look easily. She can really make this seem believable.

The pilot is set to go into initial production next month, but if the series gets picked up we can see this hit the small screen by 2013. And we all know, TV needs more sitcoms and shy away from reality TV.
