Now you can remember those day of Oo De Lally fun as Disney is celebrating  the 40th Anniversary of this beloved classic by giving it the Blu-Ray release fans have been waiting for.

The Sheriff of Nottingham and his posse often try to catch the two but fail every time. Meanwhile, Prince John and his assistant Sir Hiss, arrive in Nottingham. Sir Hiss hypnotised Prince John’s brother King Richard to go off on the Crusades, allowing Prince John to take the throne. Farnsworth Presents The Wonderful World of Oz Exhibition on 75th Anniversary of Iconic Film

The Wizard of Oz Celebrating 75 Years of this Classic Movie

The Wizard of Oz Celebrating 75 Years of this Classic Movie

To coincide with the 75th anniversary of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s classic motion picture The Wizard of Oz, the Farnsworth Art Museum will open the exhibition The Wonderful World of Oz on Saturday, October 12, 2013. The show, drawn from the world’s most comprehensive collection of Oz materials, which is based in Maine, will run through spring 2014 in the museum’s Crosman Gallery.

L. (Lyman) Frank Baum’s novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz became an instant sensation upon its 1900 publication. Eventually translated into hundreds of foreign languages, the Land of Oz ultimately became a worldwide phenomenon. Oz’s greatest success, however, came with the 1939 film starring Judy Garland as Dorothy, in which she made the Academy Award-winning song Over the Rainbow a national hit and touchstone of popular culture.

Included in the Farnsworth exhibition will be the most complete surviving costume (worn by the green Lollipop Guild Munchkin), one of Dorothy’s pinafores and blouses, examples of the many illustrated versions of Baum’s books (including the finest known copy of the first edition, first state “green imprint” of Baum’s initial book in the series), rare or one-of-a-kind posters from the various motion picture and stage productions, and a remarkable array of other Oz memorabilia from the Willard Carroll / Tom Wilhite Collection.

Among the major pieces to be displayed is the Hourglass that the Wicked Witch of the West uses in the 1939 film to show Dorothy “how much longer you have to be alive.” Margaret Hamilton, who played the witch, lived during her later years on Cape Island, off Newagen, Maine.

Carroll’s fascination with Oz began as a young boy after seeing the 1939 movie on television, spurring a collecting bug that is still with him. His passion also became part of his professional work: he has authored three Oz-related books and created The Oz Kids animated movie series for Paramount. An Emmy Award-winning producer, Carroll began his career as a development executive at Walt Disney Studios, where Wilhite at that time was head of production. Carroll wrote and directed Miramax’s all-star drama, Playing by Heart, with Sean Connery, Angelina Jolie, Dennis Quaid, and Jon Stewart; and most recently wrote and directed the romantic musical comedy, Marigold, starring Ali Larter and Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, filmed entirely in India. He is now in pre-production for his original psychological thriller, Crawl.

Accompanying the exhibition will be a new book by John Fricke, The Wonderful World of Oz: An Illustrated History of the American Classic – with hundreds of images exclusively from the collection – to be published in October 2013 by Down East Books. Additionally, Carroll’s Oz-related book, I Toto: The Autobiography of Terry, the Dog who was Toto, will be published by Abrams in September 2013.

Among the exhibition’s related programs will be a screening of the 1939 The Wizard of Oz, which Warner Bros. has announced it will reissue this fall, backed by a major promotional and merchandising campaign to mark the film’s 75th anniversary and the studio’s 90th anniversary.

The Wonderful World of Oz at the Farnsworth is sponsored in part by The Goose River Exchange. The primary media sponsor of the exhibition is Maine Home + Design.

The Farnsworth Art Museum celebrates Maine’s ongoing role in American art. It offers a nationally recognized collection of works from many of America’s greatest artists, with 20,000 square feet of gallery space and over 13,000 works in the collection. The Farnsworth has one of the largest public collections of works by sculptor Louise Nevelson, while its Wyeth Center features works of N.C., Andrew and Jamie Wyeth. The National Register-listed Farnsworth Homestead, the Olson House, a National Historic Landmark, and Julia’s Gallery complete the museum complex. “Over-Privileged New York Moms Desecrate the Spirit of Disney” By: D-Team Adam

by: D-Team Member Adam

This week the New York Post published an article that alleges that a group of wealthy Manhattan moms have been hiring handi-capped tour guides in wheel chairs to pose as their family members so they can cut to the front of lines at Walt Disney World.

The women hired their guides through a secret company called Dream Tours Florida.  Since Dream Tours would not be openly tolerated by Disney, they only take referrals from previous customers.

Disney Parks allow guests in wheel chairs and those with special needs to skip ahead of the lines, along with a few people in their group.  Its a nice gesture that takes some of the pressure off of those who want to enjoy Disney but are unable to handle the stress of long lines.

On our last trip to the Food and Wine Festival, my friend Rebecca had a broken ankle and we got her a wheelchair from Guest Services. The small group of us then got to skip ahead of the lines.  It was great.  We felt like VIPs the entire time.   That said, would I fake an injury or hire someone to get the privilege again? Not a chance.

This kind of behavior taints the Parks and injures us all.

First of all, while I hesitate to suggest this is an insult to people who are handi-capped, it is at least unconscionably crass.  Dream Tours Florida hires handi-capped people. They get paid, so they’re not being taken advantage of.  But the idea of using a handi-capped persons as a prop in a con…  Is this how low people have gotten? And for what? So they can ride Space Mountain two more times? I can’t imagine what kind of empty life these people must lead, if their moral barometer is that faulty.

The rich have always gotten more out Walt Disney World.  That doesn’t bother me.  If you can afford to pay for higher services, you should get more.  I would love to hire a VIP Tour Guide or stay in Bay Lake Tower, if I had the money.  But it wasn’t about the money with these people. Dream Tours Florida actually costs less than the Disney VIP Guides.

This was about them cheating the system.

The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

The Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World

Not to get off on a rant, but this is the problem with the Entitlement society we’re creating in this nation.  Whether you’re rich or poor, everyone seems to think that they’re owed whatever it is that they want.  Have you ever been on a highway, waiting in a line of traffic to make a right turn? There is always one person who stays on the highway and then cuts off someone at the very front of the line.  In that person’s mind, they shouldn’t have to wait in line because they’re more important than you.

That’s what this is. That is the problem.  These women believed they and their families were better than everyone else in Walt Disney World. They shouldn’t have to be waiting in line with us.

That attitude is the antithesis of everything Disney represents.  Walt Disney World is a place of innocence, joy, and…. yes, Magic. It doesn’t matter if a little girl is the mentally handi-capped daughter of a garbage man, Selena Gomez or the Grand-daughter of the Queen of England, for the duration of their time in Walt Disney World, they are both Princesses.   We’re all equal in the eyes of Walt Disney.

That is what bothers me most.

If you’re focused on cheating others and beating the system, Walt Disney World isn’t the place for you.  You’re missing the point. And I’d wager you lack the depth or the kindness to ever appreciate it.

Sadly, there isn’t much Disney can do to stop a company like Dream Tours Florida.  They can’t exactly question every handi-capped person who walks through the door.  Perhaps the new My Magic system will allow them to keep track of who handi-capped guests come in with as family.

It saddens me to think that people are getting away with this.

New Marceline Neighborhood in Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort Now on Sale

Following brisk sales of homesites, Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort announced plans for its newest neighborhood, Marceline.  Sale of the first 19 homesites will begin.

As part of the Golden Oak community, Marceline residents will enjoy a lifestyle surrounded by the Walt Disney World Resort.  This quiet, luxurious enclave is located in close proximity to Disney theme parks and recreation.  Taking advantage of its natural setting, more than half of the Marceline homesites will offer water views and others will border on a nature preserve.  Each homesite is approximately one-quarter acre in size and is within easy walking distance of Summerhouse, the private clubhouse for Golden Oak residents and their guests.

Marceline neighborhood announced at Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort.

Marceline neighborhood announced at Golden Oak at Walt Disney World Resort.

Marceline will showcase the same quality custom home building found throughout Golden Oak today, with residences drawing design and architectural inspiration from European and Caribbean influences.   Buyers can select from three prestigious homebuilders to create custom homes ranging in size from approximately 3,800 to 4,500 square feet.

Golden Oak homes start at $1.6 million. Prices, inclusive of homesite, in the Marceline neighborhood will start at $1.7 million.

“We’ve been delighted by the positive response over the past 24 months,” said Page Pierce , vice president of Disney Resort Real Estate Development. “Our first four Golden Oak neighborhoods are nearly sold out, so Marceline quite literally builds on that success.”

Marceline is named after the Missouri town where Walt Disney grew up in the early part of the 20th century.  Memories from those formative years profoundly influenced creative directions he took throughout his life.

Walt’s animation legacy has roots in Marceline, where he first picked up a pencil and sketchpad to try his hand at drawing.  The new Golden Oak neighborhood pays homage to that history with a planned sculpture park that will feature enchanting life-size sculptures of characters from Walt’s animated masterpiece Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  The sculptures are part of the exclusive Golden Oak “Disney Friends in Nature” sculpture series.  Sophisticated interpretations of classic Disney animation will be found in parks and other common areas throughout the community.

“The sculpture series is just one example of subtle Disney touches artfully woven into the luxurious character of Golden Oak,” Pierce said.  “Our Disney Imagineers poured their talents into creating a community that’s thoughtful in design, rich with details and home to a lifestyle like no other.”

Marceline is just one of many new additions to Golden Oak. The recently opened Summerhouse, the private residential club facility, is the centerpiece of community activities and events.  Reminiscent of a large Tuscan farmhouse, it offers delightful spaces for indoor and outdoor gatherings, a pool, fitness facilities with locker rooms, and a family game room.  The Summerhouse restaurant and private lounge will debut later this year, offering dining in a casual, yet sophisticated environment.

Summerhouse is also home to Golden Oak Resident Services, the team that brings Disney’s guest-service culture directly to residents.  Resident Services can arrange personal, residential and resort requests.  Services include assistance with travel and private transportation arrangements, tickets for Disney theme parks and special events, private VIP tours, golf tee-times, dinner reservations, and planning parties.  It’s like having a Fairy Godmother to handle every detail.

Golden Oak residents can also take advantage of “Disney Connection” amenities. These special services include door-to-park transportation to select locations at Walt Disney World Resort, Extra Magic Hours (at one Walt Disney World Resort theme park each day to enjoy select attractions), merchandise delivery from most Walt Disney World retail locations and discounts at all Walt Disney World golf courses.

For more information about Golden Oak, visit www.disneygoldenoak.com or call (407) 939-5593.

Newest GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title Presented to TOMY for World’s Tallest Toy Train Track Using Disney’s Chugginton Tracks

TOMY, the maker of the innovative Chuggington StackTrack™ Railway System, set a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS® title for Tallest Toy Train Track on Saturday, May 11, 2013. The record-setting train track, constructed with Chuggington StackTrack—a durable die-cast railway system that enables kids to build vertical toy train layouts—towered 17 feet 4 inches tall. In order to set the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for World’s Tallest Toy Train Track, TOMY Master Builder Jason Moreno and his helpers needed to construct a layout utilizing the Chuggington StackTrack die-cast railway track that met or exceeded 9 feet 8 inches in height, and a commercially available Chuggington StackTrack die-cast railway train had to travel from the top of the track all the way down to the bottom. Hundreds of kids and their families watched in anticipation and were delighted as the engine completed its journey down the spiraling StackTrack tower.

TOMY Master Builder Jason Moreno adds, “I went into the build being 100% confident we could set the record, but I’m not going to say it was easy!” Moreno worked on the build, which featured nearly 1,000 track pieces for more than five hours. “It was exhilarating and when that train made it through more than 140 spiraling turns and hit the bottom, I am sure you could hear the cheers and screams throughout Grand Central Terminal!”

Inspired by Chuggington’s modern characters and fast-paced adventures, TOMY’s Chuggington StackTrack die-cast railway combines train and construction play in a full line of toys. The line features playsets and high-performance engines that allow budding engineers to build tall, spiraling toy train layouts. Easy to connect and simple enough for preschoolers to build on their own, the Chuggington StackTrack die-cast railway system is a durable and sturdy solution for adding elevation to train sets and creating amazing action.
