Disneyland Resort Welcomes Anna and Elsa from ‘Frozen’ to ‘A Christmas Fantasy’ Parade for the Holidays; Celebrating the Season Now through Jan. 6, 2015

Disneyland Resort Welcomes Anna and Elsa from 'Frozen' to 'A Christmas Fantasy' Parade for the Holidays; Celebrating the Season Now through Jan. 6, 2015

Disneyland Resort Welcomes Anna and Elsa from ‘Frozen’ to ‘A Christmas Fantasy’ Parade for the Holidays; Celebrating the Season Now through Jan. 6, 2015

The Happiest Place on Earth Just Gets Merrier as Anna and Elsa from Walt Disney Pictures’ animated hit “Frozen” join the annual holiday celebration at the Disneyland Resort. The Holidays bring themed entertainment, sparkling decorations, delicious treats, festive traditions and holiday shopping to locations throughout the Resort.

Among the highlights of the season, Nov. 13 through Jan. 6, 2015, is the return of the breathtaking “World of Color – Winter Dreams” holiday spectacular – with new songs added from the “Frozen” soundtrack. Also returning to Disney California Adventure Park is the festive “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” holiday celebration and the grand finale of the season, a five-day celebration of Three Kings Day.

Holiday time at Disneyland Resort has become an annual tradition for many guests, filled with an abundance of merriment, tradition and magical memories. This year Disney Parks invites guests to “Show Your Disney Side” as they explore all there is to see and do. Expanded hours at both Disneyland Resort theme parks extend the family fun time, while the Downtown Disney Winter Village offers a chance to play and skate at “Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink.”

At Disneyland Park

At Disneyland Park, holiday traditions include the popular “A Christmas Fantasy” parade, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year by welcoming Anna and Elsa from “Frozen” into the cast. They are among the 100-plus parade performers, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, other Disney characters and Santa Claus, making a special appearance from the North Pole.

When Santa isn’t appearing in “A Christmas Fantasy,” he and Mrs. Claus are greeting guests and listening to holiday wishes at the Jingle Jangle Jamboree in Big Thunder Ranch in Disneyland. Jingle Jangle Jamboree comes to life with Disney characters, music, games, cookie decorating, crafts and seasonal entertainment. New this year on the Jamboree stage is a comedy and music show that invites guests to laugh and sing along in a wacky tale of Christmas in the West.

Additional beloved holiday traditions at Disneyland include:

  • Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle – A sensational holiday lighting and special-effects show carries the magic of the holidays from the castle all the way to the 60-foot tall Disneyland Christmas tree in Town Square. The finale of the show includes the legendary “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks show, ending with a touching rendition of “White Christmas” and a climactic snowfall swirling upon Main Street, U.S.A., “it’s a small world” Mall and New Orleans Square.
  • “it’s a small world” Holiday becomes  a worldwide celebration of the season, boasting more than 300,000 glittering lights on its facade and, inside, the children of many nations in their holiday attire. After dark, the smiling clock at the front of “it’s a small world” reveals a sparkling projection show. On every quarter hour, the facade of the attraction is transformed into an enormous clockwork mechanism with advanced 3D-projection technology. The gears and springs pull back to reveal a world of holiday wonders hidden behind the clock.
  • Haunted Mansion Holiday presents a madcap celebration as the traditions of Halloween and Christmas collide.  The ghoulish but well-meaning Jack Skellington from Tim Burton’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas” has come to Haunted Mansion to transform it with his skewed vision of the holidays, including the newest version of the Haunted Mansion gingerbread house.
  • The skippers of “Jingle Cruise” bring holiday fun to a seasonal version of the celebrated Adventureland attraction – and it’s newly enhanced this year.
  • Special holiday food items include Walt’s favorite gingerbread cookies at Jolly Holiday Bakery and Cafe and holiday tamale plates at Rancho del Zocalo Restaurante. Elf Mickey premium popcorn buckets and drink steins are available in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.
  • Guests may book the seasonal favorite “Holiday Time at the Disneyland Resort” guided tour which provides entry (subject to availability) into “it’s a small world” Holiday, Haunted Mansion Holiday and Jingle Cruise along with reserved seating and a holiday treat while enjoying “A Christmas Fantasy” parade. The tour also includes viewing of the holiday decor in Disney California Adventure, a keepsake remembrance and entertaining information about Disneyland holiday traditions.  For information and reservations guests may visit any Disneyland Resort Guest Relations location or call (714) 781-TOUR (781-8687).

Disneyland Resort Welcomes Anna and Elsa from ‘Frozen’ to ‘A Christmas Fantasy’ Parade for the Holidays; Celebrating the Season Now through Jan. 6, 2015

At Disney California Adventure Park

After its successful 2013 debut, “World of Color − Winter Dreams” returns to Disney California Adventure with several “Frozen” songs in the show, including “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” and “Love is an Open Door.” Also returning to the nighttime spectacular is Olaf the snowman from “Frozen.” The holiday version of the popular “World of Color” show features classic winter scenes from such beloved Disney and Disney-Pixar films as “Bambi,” “Toy Story” and, of course, “Frozen.”

“Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” at Paradise Gardens in Disney California Adventure is a daily celebration inspired by the warmth and joyous spirit of Latino culture and holiday traditions, with festive music and dancing, vibrant colors, delicious food, Disney character appearances and the lively “Disney Viva Navidad! Street Party.” “Disney ¡Viva Navidad!” will conclude with a five-day celebration of the traditional Three Kings Day, Friday through Tuesday, Jan. 2 through 6, 2015.

Additional holiday highlights at Disney California Adventure include:

  • As part of the park’s seasonal makeover, a whimsical “snowcar” (the Radiator Springs version of a snowman) stands at the entrance to Cars Land, and each address along Route 66 – Flo’s V-8 Cafe, Fillmore’s, Cozy Cone Motel, Luigi’s Casa della Tires and more – features holiday decor that reflects the personality of the “Cars” character who lives there.
  • A dazzling, 50-foot Christmas tree adorns Carthay Circle along Buena Vista Street. The tree and surrounding buildings, inspired by Los Angeles as it appeared when Walt Disney arrived in the 1920s, are decorated with vintage-style ornaments.
  • Children of all ages may visit a classic department store Santa at Elias & Co., the main department store along Buena Vista Street.
  • Wintertime fun rocks the night at “Mad T Party” as Alice and the Mad Hatter add their own brand of off-kilter holiday spirit to the nighttime celebration in Hollywood Land.
  • “a bug’s land” transforms as Flik and his bug buddies spread giant Christmas lights and oversized ornaments throughout their realm.
  • Special holiday food items include sourdough bread in holiday shapes at Boudin’s and homemade turkey pot pie soup in a sourdough bread bowl at Pacific Wharf Cafe. Elf Mickey premium popcorn buckets and drink steins are available in both Disneyland and Disney California Adventure.

Downtown Disney District and Hotels of the Disneyland Resort

In the Downtown Disney District, guests may take a break from their holiday shopping and dining to go skating on “Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink.” The rink opens for 60-minute skating sessions from 3 to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and 3 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. This year, the Downtown Disney Winter Village around Olaf’s Frozen Ice Rink is bigger than ever, offering shoppers holiday gift items such as “Frozen” plush toys, holiday crystal from Arribas Brothers, art works, clothing and accessories, all sold from the windows of the charming village houses. Hot chocolate from Ghirardelli along with coffee, sweets and baked goods from La Brea Bakery are also available at the Downtown Disney Winter Village.

The Hotels of the Disneyland Resort join in the holiday festivities with twinkling lights and ornaments, special entertainment and holiday dining with themed menus. The six-foot-high gingerbread house in the spacious lobby of Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa is large enough for hot chocolate to be sold from its window. Guests also will enjoy new and favorite menu items at Napa Rose in Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, and at Steakhouse 55 in the Disneyland Hotel, which recently debuted a seasonal Chef’s Tasting Menu.

One of the many benefits of staying at one of the hotels of the Disneyland Resort is Extra Magic Hour,* an early admission option available to registered hotel guests every day of their hotel stay. Extra Magic Hour offers admission prior to park opening to select attractions, stores, entertainment and dining locations in Disneyland Park (currently Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) and Disney California Adventure Park, including Cars Land (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays). Extra Magic Hour is only available for guests who book and stay at a Disneyland Resort Hotel, and each registered hotel guest (ages 3 and older) must have a valid theme park ticket and active hotel room key card.*

Guests wishing to stay in one of the Disneyland Resort hotels will enjoy a special hotel offer** during the holiday season. When guests book through Nov. 19, they may save up to 20 percent on premium rooms Sunday through Thursday nights through Dec. 18, at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, Disneyland Hotel or Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel.**  Weekend discounts are not available and discounts are not available Nov. 13 through 16, and Nov. 21 through Dec. 13. To book, call 714-520-6425 or visit www.Disneyland.com/offers.

November 20, 2014 dizradio No Comments

by: D-Team Caitlin

When thinking about which princess we’d most like to party with, Snow White tops the list. Her cozy cottage in the woods is perfect for a harvest party! With all that singing and dancing with the dwarfs and the smell of fresh baked pies in the air, it’s definitely the place to be. So, join us in throwing a Snow White Harvest Party in honor of one delightful princess.

Poisoned Apple Invites

Poisoned Apple Invites

1. Poisoned Apple Invites:
If you can hand deliver your invites, attach them to a shiny red apple. How could anyone resist? Snow White sure couldn’t. Have fun designing your invitations. Just don’t forget the who, what, when, where and why!
Grumpy's Apple Dunking

Grumpy’s Apple Dunking

2. Grumpy’s Apple Dunking:
Of all the dwarfs, we think Grumpy would find the most pleasure in dunking people to bob for apples. Fill up your bucket with water and apples and you’re all set. (Insider Tip: don’t forget to have towels ready for your wet guests to dry themselves.)
Evil Queen's Magic Mirror

Evil Queen’s Magic Mirror

3. Evil Queen’s Magic Mirror:
“Mirror mirror on the wall…Who’s the fairest one of all?” If you have a mirror lying around the house, find a prominent spot to display it for those evil queen wannabes in attendance.
Snow White's Wishing Jar

Snow White’s Wishing Jar

4. Snow White’s Wishing Jar:
Decopauge a jar for guests to write their wishes on and throw inside. Just like a wishing well, but much easier to construct. Snip your favorite illustrations out of an inexpensive storybook (or print them off the computer) and paint them onto the jar wherever your heart desires.
Wicked Witch's Stew and Poisoned Apples

Wicked Witch’s Stew and Poisoned Apples

5. Wicked Witch’s Stew and Poisoned Apples:
Any sort of sausage and bean soup or vegetable stew would suit this themed dinner perfectly. Don’t forget the poisoned apples for added dramatic affect.
Snow White's Pie

Snow White’s Pie

6. Snow White’s Pie:
Given Snow’s experience with apples, we’re sure she would whip up anything but that. Try cherry, peach, or even pumpkin!
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Viewing

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Viewing

7. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Viewing:
Turn down the lights and settle in for a viewing of the very first feature length animated movie. Candles definitely add to the ambiance, but if there are any little ones present, make sure to use battery operated ones.
 Seven Dwarf's Rock Candy

Seven Dwarf’s Rock Candy

8. Seven Dwarf’s Rock Candy:
“In a mine, in a mine, where a million diamonds shine!” To make these diamond and gemstone party favors, simply break apart the rock candy, mix the flavors, and bag them up for your guests.
Feel free to share your own Harvest Party stories with us–We’d love to hear from you!

Alternative Disney Halloween Costumes – Part 2

October 29, 2014 dizradio No Comments

By D-Team Caitlin:

Want to stand out in a crowd full of Anna’s, Elsa’s, and Olaf’s? You’re in the right place!

One of our favorite parts of Halloween is getting to express yourself through your costume. And we are firm believers in the power of imagination. So, put yours to the test this Halloween, and let’s get creative!

Disney Parks Trash Cans

Disney Parks Trash Cans

  1. Disney Parks Trash Cans:

Now this is inventive. My friend, Chris and his pals, Laura, James, Jen, Lindsey, and Sarah went all out for this years’ Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party. Each of them is modeled after a different land in the Magic Kingdom. Their attention to detail is impressive to say the least!

Did we mention they really get into character? #disneyheroes

Disney Cast Member

Disney Cast Member

  1. Disney Cast Member:

Do you have a favorite Cast Member costume? Try recreating it with items from your own closet or the Goodwill store.

-Who doesn’t love the Haunted Mansion costume? Try your hand at a DIY WDW name tag to top it all off. Mine is made from a plastic plate and computer paper. Cover in packing tape, glue on a safety pin, and you’re all set!

Favorite Disney Attraction

Favorite Disney Attraction

  1. Favorite Disney Attraction:

If you’re up for a challenge, DIY a costume inspired by one of your favorite Disney attractions. Chris, King of the Costume DIY, brought down the house once again when he dressed as The Enchanted Tiki RoomTalk about unique!

Walt Disney himself

Walt Disney himself

  1. Walt Disney:

We’ve always thought the man behind the magic should get a lot more love on Halloween. Instead of dressing up as a character he created, how about dressing up as him instead! Walt liked to stick with classic solid or pinstriped suits, sweater vests, ties, and fedoras. Bring along a sketch pad of Mickey Mouse for extra oomph. And don’t forget to don his iconic pencil mustache.

Happy Halloween!

Kim Possible & Ron Stoppable

Kim Possible & Ron Stoppable

  1. Kim Possible & Ron Stoppable:

“Doesn’t matter where or when there’s trouble, if you just call my name – Kim Possible!” You can’t go wrong with these classic 2000s Disney Channel cartoon characters, especially if you’re dressing as a couple. Just be prepared for everyone in their mid-20s to ask “Where’s Rufus?!” all night long. Naked Mole Rats are surprisingly hard to track down.

The Cast of Recess

The Cast of Recess

  1. The Cast of Recess:

Who didn’t love this cult classic?! Dig through your closet for a leader-of-the-pack TJ Dettweiller or spunky Spinelli outfit. This would make a great costume for couples, groups, and families! Remember the wild kindergarteners? Or “the Ashley’s”? Miss Finster? King Bob? Swinger Girl? There are so many potential costumes in this show!

Pineapple Dole Whip // Mickey Ice Cream Bar

Pineapple Dole Whip // Mickey Ice Cream Bar

  1. Pineapple Dole Whip // Mickey Ice Cream Bar

These classically delicious Disney Park treats are sure to make everyone reminiscent of their last Disney vacay (and probably hungry, too.) Color coordinate your outfit with the treat you’re representing, and get creative with your hats!

-The Pineapple Dole Whip cup is made of a plastic plate and Manila file folders. I colored on the Disney Parks logo and trim with markers. For the rest, I used pipe cleaners, felt, ribbon, and tape. (Pro Tip: For extra security, glue a hair comb to the bottom of the plate.)

 Mickey Ice Cream Bar

-The Mickey Ice Cream Bar is made of file folders, covered in felt and attached to a Swizzle stick. Attach the stick to a headband, cover in felt, and you’re ready to go.

Happy Halloween!

John Carter Rights Revert back to Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. from Disney

Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. announces that the movie, television and merchandise rights have reverted back to the company. Walt Disney Pictures held the rights and produced the movie JOHN CARTER in 2012. Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. will be seeking a new studio to continue this seminal Sci-Fi adventure.

“John Carter of Mars was the creative stimulus behind such movie classics as Superman, Star Wars and Avatar,” said James Sullos, President. “Edgar Rice Burroughs was the Master of Adventure and his literary works continue to enjoy a world-wide following. We will be seeking a new partner to help develop new adventures on film as chronicled in the eleven Mars novels Burroughs wrote. This adventure never stops. Along with a new TARZAN film in development by Warner Bros., we hope to have JOHN CARTER OF MARS become another major franchise to entertain world-wide audiences of all ages.”
Founded in 1923 by Edgar Rice Burroughs himself, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. holds numerous trademarks and the rights to all literary works of the author still protected by copyright. The company has overseen every adaptation of his literary works in publishing, film, television, theatrical stage productions, licensing and merchandising. The company continues to be owned by the Burroughs family and remains headquartered in Tarzana, California, the town named after the Tarzana Ranch Mr. Burroughs purchased there in 1918 which led to the town’s future development.
