Fine Art Photographer Gray Malin Debuts “The Red Carpet Series” with Minnie Mouse as Muse for #RockTheDots

Fine Art Photographer Gray Malin Debuts “The Red Carpet Series” with Minnie Mouse as Muse for #RockTheDots

Fine Art Photographer Gray Malin Debuts “The Red Carpet Series” with Minnie Mouse as Muse for #RockTheDots

Fine art photographer Gray Malin has released a new series inspired by the ultimate global style icon, Minnie Mouse, set within Hollywood’s iconic landscape – the red carpet. The series is a limited run release along with a piece of video art, a first-ever production for Malin. The release coincides with #RockTheDots an annual celebration of fashion muse Minnie Mouse and her signature polka dot style tied to National Polka Dot Day on January 22nd – and fittingly falls in the midst of Hollywood’s Award Season.

Malin released the new video art and ‘Leading Lady’ image celebrating Minnie Mouse via his Instagram account ahead of an event in Hollywood to unveil the full series: https://www.instagram.com/p/BPXe9xbF7ej/

Since her first on-screen appearance in “Steamboat Willie,” Minnie Mouse has made an undeniable impact on the entertainment and fashion industries. With Minnie serving as the muse, Malin, known for his unique aerial compositions, took inspiration from her Hollywood and fashion history to stage a photograph embracing these core tenets through a classically styled black tie affair atop a spectacular red carpet. Malin utilized white parasols to illustrate Minnie’s trademark polka dotted dress and give a nod to Hollywood glamour.

“Minnie Mouse has helped make polka dots famous all over the world, and I am continually inspired by her impact on fashion and pop culture,” said photographer Gray Malin. “Her red with white polka dot dress and the classic red carpet have always been symbolic of Hollywood to me. I consider Minnie one of Hollywood’s most iconic leading ladies, so the red carpet seemed like a fitting setting for a collection that celebrates her timeless style.”

The video piece showcases the movement that comprises the key stills of the series. Malin used his artistic eye to create a glamorous visual that highlights Minnie’s fun-loving personality and the glitz of Tinseltown from a whole new perspective.

Working with choreographer Mary John Frank, the carpet comes to life in a dance number driven by the opening and closing of the parasols, infusing movement into Minnie’s iconic polka dots. Sixty dancers glide across the red carpet, showcasing the hustle and bustle of awards season to the tune of original music, with the final frame including a star turn by entertainment’s leading lady herself – Minnie Mouse.

“Minnie Mouse has been captivating audiences, and inspiring artists and designers for decades,” said Josh Silverman, Executive Vice President, Global Licensing at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media. “Gray Malin’s incredible ‘Red Carpet’ series, with Minnie as muse, is the perfect marriage of fashion, art and entertainment.”

Ariana Grande And John Legend To Perform Oscar® And Grammy®-Winning Song “Beauty And The Beast” As The Title Track For Disney’s Upcoming Soundtrack To The Live-action Adaptation Of The Animated Classic

Disney's 2017 Live Action Beauty and the Beast

Disney’s 2017 Live Action Beauty and the Beast

GRAMMY nominated and multi-platinum selling artist Ariana Grande and 10-time GRAMMY, Oscar®-winning and multi-platinum selling singer/songwriter/musician John Legend are set to perform the Oscar and GRAMMY-winning duet “Beauty and the Beast” as the title track for Disney’s upcoming soundtrack to the live-action film adaptation “Beauty and the Beast.” The song will also be featured in the film.

The enchanting ballad, originally performed by Celine Dion and Peabo Bryson featuring eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken’s beautiful melody and two-time Oscar-winner Howard Ashman’s unforgettable lyrics, received an Academy Award®, Golden Globe® and GRAMMY Award, among other accolades, upon its release in 1991.

The new rendition of the classic song is produced by GRAMMY-winning veteran Ron Fair, whose music career spans 37 years as a major-label record company leader and accomplished producer, arranger, recording engineer and musical director. Fair was brought in to produce by Disney’s president of Music & Soundtracks, Mitchell Leib, who also brought Grande and Legend to the project. The history of collaboration between Leib and Fair in film music goes back to the highly-successful “Pretty Woman” soundtrack. “Ron was the first and only choice to make this particular record,” says Leib. “No one is a better vocal producer and he also has a great understanding of the filmmaking dynamic.”

Fair’s recordings have won six GRAMMY Awards and have been nominated 18 times. Fair discovered and shepherded Christina Aguilera, selling over 50 million albums and winning numerous GRAMMY Awards. He A&R’d Aguilera’s first five albums and championed the Black Eyed Peas to 27 million albums, 4 number-ones and multiple GRAMMY wins, as well as co-producing and arranging the strings on their global breakthrough # 1 hit “Where is The Love?”

Says Fair, “Stepping into the shoes of an Oscar and GRAMMY Award-winning classic is not small potatoes. But with today’s two greatest plutonium singers – John Legend and Ariana Grande – we are bringing the song back with a new school-old school fresh treatment that shows the soulfulness and power of what a great melody and lyric can inspire.”

The music video will be directed by Dave Meyers, the innovative visionary whose long-time collaborations with major artists like P!nk, Janet Jackson, Ice Cube and Britney Spears have resulted in dozens of award nominations and many wins, including a GRAMMY in 2005 for Best Music Video and 11 MTV Video Music Awards, including one for Katy Perry’s smash hit “Firework.” He recently directed the music video for P!nk’s hit single “Just Like Fire” from the Walt Disney Records soundtrack for “Alice Through The Looking Glass.”

Menken also provides the film score, with new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Ashman. Also featured are three new songs written by Menken and veteran lyricist and three time Oscar winner Tim Rice. The original motion picture soundtrack will be released by Walt Disney Records on March 10, 2017. The pre-order is available now at http://disneymusic.co/BeautySndtrkP.

Walt Disney’s Vacation Home Is For Sale

January 16, 2017 Walt Disney No Comments
Walt Disney built his Palm Springs vacation home a few years before he died in 1966

Walt Disney built his Palm Springs vacation home a few years before he died in 1966

When Roy and Walt Disney co-founded the Walt Disney Company in 1920, they had dreams of large success, but likely could not have fathomed becoming the world leader in fantasy, cartoon characters and family film. Neither would they have imagined continuing that leadership position in their artistic niche so long after their deaths. Although Roy was the silent, shy partner who addressed the financial end, Walt was the creative part of the duo and during his lifetime accrued 26 Academy Awards (still a record) for the company. Though Walt was the youngest brother, he died at the age of 65 in 1966. Roy was 73 at the time and postponed his retirement in order to open Disney World, which he later named Walt Disney World in honor of his brother. The new park transformed Orlando from a sleepy military and citrus town to America’s most popular family resort vacation destination with over 50 million visitors in 2016.

Only three years before his death, Walt Disney and his wife, Lillian, built a vacation home in Palm Springs as a getaway from Walt’s hectic work schedule and to enjoy their later years. The home stayed in the Disney family until 2015 and the new owners retained the charm and whimsy of the home created by this imaginative couple.

At 2,443 square feet, the four-bedroom, four-bath home has the clean lines of mid-century design, private in the front with cheerful red double entry doors and wide open to the outdoors in the back with views of the pool, raised spa, mountains and the Indian Canyons Golf Resort. As with most of the modernist homes of Palm Springs, the focus was on the enjoyment of outdoor living, relaxing and entertaining.

Furnished in period furnishings with an Art Deco flair, bold flushes of color against a neutral background is indicative of Walt’s colorful creations on film. Little surprises are found in various locations around the house and iconic Disney sayings are playfully written in the backs of closets challenging residents not to enjoy the unexpected chuckle. The listing agents are Klint Watkins and Ryan Cummings of HK Lane, an affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate. The home is priced at $899,000.

Disney Ranked Most Intimate Brand among Millennials, According to MBLM’s Brand Intimacy 2017 Report

Disney ranked the most intimate brand among millennials, according to MBLM’s Brand Intimacy 2017 Report, which is the largest study of brands based on emotions. Brand intimacy is defined as a new paradigm that leverages and strengthens the emotional bonds between a person and a brand.

“Disney resonates with this age group because they grew up with the brand. It has kept up with their changing interests and now includes popular franchises like Star Wars and Marvel. Disney is also a mainstay for young families,” stated Mario Natarelli, MBLM’s managing partner. “Interestingly, five out of the top 10 brands for millennials are in the media & entertainment industry, which we believe reflects the prevailing mood of escapism and the need for respite.”

Following Disney, Amazon and Netflix ranked as the second and third most intimate brands for millennials. Comparatively, in MBLM’s 2015 report, Amazon placed first, followed by Apple and PlayStation.

The other brands that round out the top 10 are: Apple, Nintendo, Target, Chevrolet, Xbox, Google and YouTube.

The Brand Intimacy 2017 Report analyzes the responses of 6,000 consumers and 54,000 brand evaluations in the U.S., Mexico and UAE. The full report will be released on January 18, 2017.

Iron Man Experience, Disney Parks’ First-Ever Marvel-Themed Ride, Opens at Hong Kong Disneyland Today!

Iron Man Experience, Disney Parks' First-Ever Marvel-Themed Ride, Opens at Hong Kong Disneyland Today!

Iron Man Experience, Disney Parks’ First-Ever Marvel-Themed Ride, Opens at Hong Kong Disneyland Today!

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts and the Hong Kong Government celebrated the grand opening of Iron Man Experience, the first-ever Marvel-themed ride at a Disney park and the first Disney attraction to feature the city of Hong Kong as its story setting.

“We are always pushing the boundaries of creativity and innovation so that our guests can step into the magical worlds of their favorite stories and meet their most beloved characters,” said Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts. “We’re thrilled to be adding the high-tech, action-packed universe of Marvel to Hong Kong Disneyland, and we’ll continue building on it as we move into the next phase of expansion.”

With the new addition of Iron Man Experience, Hong Kong Disneyland further strengthens its role as one of the premier tourist destinations in Asia and a key driver for Hong Kong’s competitiveness as a must-visit tourism destination in Greater China and Asian markets featuring a popular and iconic character beloved by Marvel fans in the region.

Anchoring a unique storyline, the eminent innovator and pioneer Tony Stark has selected Tomorrowland in Hong Kong Disneyland to host Stark Expo, where he will show off his latest high-tech creations in various exhibition halls – the Hall of Legacy, the Hall of Protection, the Hall of Energy and the Hall of Mobility. Guests will be among the first to explore Tony Stark’s latest innovations up close and fly in a gravity-defying Iron Wing flight vehicle in Iron Man Experience. He has also made Hong Kong the Asia headquarters of Stark Industries hereafter.

The new attraction takes guests on the epic adventure of a lifetime as they join Iron Man in a battle against Hydra across the city of Hong Kong. Guests will make their way to the Hong Kong Stark Tower powered by the arc reactor and whizz alongside Iron Man through streets that resemble those in West Kowloon and downtown, and fly over iconic Hong Kong landmarks like Tsing Ma Bridge, Victoria Harbour and the city’s pristine mountain ranges.

It’s an experience that will continue to broaden the overall appeal of Hong Kong Disneyland to everyone who visits the park.

The opening of Iron Man Experience continues a period of growth at Hong Kong Disneyland with more on the way in the months ahead. A third resort hotel, Disney Explorers Lodge, will open later in the first half of the year.

The resort recently celebrated its 10th Anniversary with brand-new popular experiences. Between 2011 and 2013, it launched three themed areas – Toy Story Land, Grizzly Gulch and Mystic Point, growing the size of the park by almost 25%.

The Walt Disney Company and the Hong Kong Government recently unveiled proposed plans for additional Marvel experiences at the park in the years ahead as part of an expansion that would include an all-new Frozen-themed land and a transformed Castle and Hub area, which, if approved, will take the very best of Disney and telling stories in new ways first in Hong Kong.
